Life seems to be Whizzing by Without a moment to catch its breath. Everything you touch seems to open a door to a new adven- ture. Your days are constantly filled with a variety of activities to keep you traveling toward that goal. The Seniors are a spirited, industrious group who are continually striv- ing to reach their destination. Each must make his exit so as to allow room for those who follow. As undoubtedly many realize, we have taken the essentials that high school has to offer and will soon be experiencing independence, a type ot freedom which Walks hand-in-hand with responsibility. I-le does not try to be ostentatious by using flowery expressions. l-Ie is not unduly querrulous, lugubrious, or bigoted. Now take a high school journalism student: he exercises freedom oi expression unmatched by his contemporaries on the local daily lthough sometimes he is censoredl. lt is not an easy job to put out a high school publication, even in two weeks. In order that news not be too ancient by the time it reaches the reader, we strive for current news. For example, a sporting event took place Wednes- day, the story was written Thursday, and the paper came.out Friday. Not typical, but interesting to note. Ioyce Claud. Pat Dougherty. Ron Aspey, Car- los Phelps, lim Davis, Kenneth Harrell, Nick Necochea, Coach Tenny. Larry Driscoll made the All-Valley iootball team for the first time this year. Driscoll, chosen for his out- standing ability as a blocking back, was also Ce-ntral's iirst string quar- terback, piloting the Spartans to a berth in the SCI? playoffs. For his stellar performances throughout the season, George Ra- mirez was a must for All-Valley halfback. This is George's second year on the All-Valley team. In there on every play, George is one ot the players who will be missed next year. Ray Garcia was chosen for All- Valley offensive tackle this year be- cause of his outstanding ability in this field. Because Ray is as big as he is, it was hard for him to be moved out of his place. His fighting ability and determination will be missed next year when the l956 team takes to the gridiron. Waweq Kenneth Harrell played a little bit of everything this year, but from the opinions of the men who pick the All-Valley team, Kenny was best as a defensive tackle. Breaking through the line to stop the oppon- ents for a loss, Nero, as he was called by his teammates, stopped many a touchdown drive. ww X S X - X X X :XX-1: -f-X215 Swmwwx XX , X X W 'V W4 XS N S S N I X l X E . -- ' 1 if 5552 . Publicly Owned WATER and PCVVER WATER AND POWER . . . Imperial Irrigation District, a publicly-owned utility, was organized in l9ll. Under the Water Code of the State of California, it is authorized to serve water for irrigation and domestic purposes, and gen- erate and distribute electric power. It is the largest irrigation district in the Western Hemisphere, with combined assets of more than Sl00,000,000.00 and serving 6,000 water accounts and 29,000 power accounts. IRRIGATION . . . The District operates and maintains more than 3,100 miles of canals and drains, which serve the 500,000 acres of farm lands under cultivation. LOCATION AND AREAS SERVED . . . The District is located in Imperial County, Cali- fornia. There are seven incorporated cities Within the District's boundaries: El Centro, Brawley, Holt- ville, Imperial, Calipatria, Calexico and Westmor- land. Scenic view along All-American Canal. The scene shows a U. S. Highway 80 bridge where it crosses the big 80-mile long canal in the California sand hills area. POWER SYSTEM . . . Present sources of electrical energy for the farms, homes and industries of Imperial Valley are the hydroelectric plants on the All-American Canal, a steam-electric generating plant, a diesel plant, and Davis Dam on the Colorado River. More than 1,050 trained employees are engaged in servicing the area with the water and power that are fused into the life-blood of the Imperial Valley. The development of the great Imperial Valley throughout the years has been contingent on the progress of the Imperial Irrigation District. The bringing into production of additional fertile acres, and electrification of rural and urban areas, have been due to long-range, intelligent planning by Imperial Imperial Irrigation District AllAmericanCanul Power -Awn- Irrigation District.
