The future of mankind on the globe hangs on its decisions and what de- cisions they must bel We're standing on that breath- taking pinnacle of history, l944. And then from that almost inconceivable height, those infinite consideraf tions, We plunge down to the narrower view of this year's effect on Central. Yes, this is the year that we have begun to miss, from schools like Central, those boys who in this struggle for freedom have fought brilliantly at Tarawa, the Gilberts, the Aleutians, Sicily. They are gone, some for the duration, some forever. Those on the hattlefront have taken soniee thing with them. Knowledge? . . Yes, but some- thing more, something finer. Out there they carry the memories of school, friendship, home and parents. For these men we resolve to do our best here to help them. Yes, this is our year of decision . . . our year to make the world safe for peace.
