HW: , ' ' - 1 I AiXsQfr'qQwhich clearly indicated that the speaker sees afar eh 1 3311, bville pales into insignificante a ffwvr 'xl have heard it used by Sophemores when it seemed to mean that steps are being taken by the speaker to approach the dignity, the freedom, and the autocratic power which is coveted by every forward looking citizen of Sophomoreburg. I have heard Juniors use the same expression when they clearly meant by it that when 2531 arrive at the station just ahead they will bring comfort to the distressed and relief to the oppressed, and will rectify all the wrongs they have suffered or committed in Junior City. And then I have heard its echo--'I am a Seniorn--brcath- ed in the confidence of success and psychic conquest, when it really meant that the speaker must new take his bearings carefully and feel his way cautiously, lest he tumble from his high place into oblivion and thus bring irreparable loss to the all-important Senior State. But it is not when thus uttered by the several class- men that the expression Wwhen I am a Seniorn has its great- est drawing power or its most profound influence. It is when the longing for it lodges in the mind as an ideal, when it is seen between the lines of the text book, over the shelves of the library, in every page of the note book, when it can be detected in the flash of the eye, the flush of the cheek, and the impulse of the musclesg when it stands as a sign to lead the way--a pillar of cloud by day and of fire by nightg when each word in the wish, Wwhen I am a Seniorn, becomes a challenge and an inspiration to the best energy and enthusiasm of human nature--then it is that the student is fairly entered on the highway to success in be- coming a Senior. --Cree T.
