The finances of the paper were handled by Iris Hill, business manager. Mrs. Fleischer, ad- viser, has contributed much help to the staff members in publishing the paper. The paper, published semi- monthly, has presented un- biased accounts of all school activities and has greatly pleased its readers. l...-01..i Advertising Handled Well By Efficient Workers The financial success of the paper is to be attributed to the never ending efforts put forth by Iris Hill, the business man- ager, and the advertising staff composed of Aileen Berry, Verna May Strayer, Virginia Stimson, and Milton Garrett. The necessary finances for the paper were secured by soliciting ads from Medford and' Central Point business men. The members of the Central Pointer staff wish to express their appreciation for the sup- port given to them during the past year by the merchants. MARJORIE PIERCE, Emron 8 e SCHOOL PAPER FINISHES SUCCESSFUL YEAR FROM FINANCIAL AND COOPERATIVE POINT One of the most successful years in the history of the Central Pointer, fro ' finan- cial as well as coope ve stu- dent standpoint, has been completed. Due to the fact that the re- serve fund set up three years ago had run low, an inter-class play contest was held. in the new gym in November to bol- ster the fund. This, together with the proceeds of over eighty subscriptions, put the paper on a solid financial basis, and will leave a large reserve fund for the coming years. With this sound backing the editor and staff have been in- spired to go ahead and make the paper one that students of Central Point High may well be proud of. It was due to the capable leadership of the editor, Mar- jorie Pierce, that the paper has attained unequaled success this year. A great deal of credit for the success of the school 'paper may be ascribed to Mrs. Ethel Fleischer, Central Poin- ter adviser, who has devoted much time for several years to constant improvement of the paper. Mrs. Fleischer, is an in- structor in English. o Small Groups On Staff Quiet But Invaluable Ruth Freeland and Ernes- tine Tracy efficiently handled the circulation department of the paper, distributing school papers, filing them for future reference, and heading a sec- ond semester subscription drive. Reporters, who were re- sponsible for short class stories and personals, were Jane Mann, Virginia Luther, Marie Garrett, Ronald James, Zoe Hill, and Barbara Henderson. Each class was represented in this group. Luvene and Carol Hilkeylas typists for the Central Point-In er were invaluable during th year. .- Central Point Exchanges A Paper With Other Schools 'The Central Pointer's ex- change department was. com- posed of Emma Miller, Marcia Rodgers, and Juanita Elliott. Copies of the school papers were mailed regularly by this group to the other schools who, in turn, sent copies of their own' publications. These papers were filed in the libarary for students to read. School papers were ex- changed with high schools or colleges in Eagle Point, Salem, Myrtle 'Creek, Corvallis, Tal- ent, Sams Valley. Rogue River, McMinnville, Phoenix, Medford, Klamath Falls, Jacksonville, ubbard, Glendale, Bend, Ash- land, Coos River, Woodburn.- Sports Writers Give Accurate Reports of School Athletics Dick Wyatt and Woodrow Phillips, as sports writers, have again this year done an out- standing job- of covering the 40-41 athletic activities and presenting the results in a complete interesting manner to the students. The fans unable to attend the games have been kept in- formed as to the outstanding plays and scores through the unfailing efforts of these writers. Football, basketball, baseball, and track men have received recognition for their abilities as seen by the sports department. Norrene Bohnert was an ac- tive aid as she gave accurate reports of girls' sports. Feature Department Proves Source of Great Amusement Due to the capable creative efforts of Shirley Kincaid and Dale Seymour, the feature de- partment has been handled in such a way as to please and attract the readers. Students and friends always eagerly looked forward to and highly enjoyed this part of the paper. Providing a never ending source of amusement columns coming under the headings of Through the Transom, Out of the Ashcan,',' Aunt Dottie, Chatterbox, . and 'fCan you Imagine added much ,to the success of the Central Pointer. 'fi' . Queen SHIRLEY KINCAID amiva r I ln October, the Central Point Carnival, now an annual event was staged with both surprising and cheering results, for the second consecutive year. This year's carnival, advised and directed by Mr. Harrison was for a general student body fund. Each class elected a candidate for the contest to determine who would reign as Queen of the Carni- val. The candidates were Marjorie Hilkey, Fresh- man, Beverly Watson, Sophomore, Elaine Westrup, junior, and Shirley Kincaid, Senior. The contest was close and exciting all the way, ended when the final count showed Shirley Kincaid to be Queen. Such clubs and organizations as the Order of C, the Girls' Pep Club, each class, and many others held concessions. A large, jostling, cheering, and happy crowd bought their tickets and were away to an evening .Q -k,..1P,f..-F:-E.-nf 2---Q-wir-wg, -- -fy 573,-Q., Ti Clzird pface BEVERLY WATSON The music is softly playing and in marches the Fourth place winner in the contest, Marjorie Hil- key. Closely following her is the third place winner, Beverly Watson, then second in place we find Elaine Westrup. Following the rest is the Queen of the carnival Shirley Kincaid. She graciously ascends to the throne and is crowned by the president of the student body. As a token of appreciation Shirley is given a large box of candy. The music stops, the lights dim, and a moving picture is in process. The picture furnishes vast entertainment for the older folks, and a comedy entertains the younger folks. At the conclusion of the pictures, the lights are again flashed on and the booths are again open for business. , ln appreciation for well organized and very suc- cessful carnival the student body presented Mr. Harrison with a Parker pen and pencil set. And in appreciation to the town of Central Point the stu- dents take off their hats and extend to them their most hearty thanks. We hope we have pleased you, and we would appreciate your attendance at the future carnivals. of fun and entertainment. After a couple of hours of visiting the different concessions, we are called to the assembly room for tl'ie main attraction of the evening. First will be the presenting of the queen of the carnival. 3660129 P16166 gourflz pface MARIORIE HILKEY ELAINE WESTRUP. THE POINTER SDDHUMDIQES Front Row: G. Vincent, F. Gebhard, N. Love, C.
