RIBBON THE VIOLET THE DENTAL HYGIENE DEPARTMENT of Central Piedmont Community College Charlotte, North Carolina 1971 Never Say Quit When tilings go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And good fortune seems to pass you by, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest, if you must . . . but don’t quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When we might have won had we stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow, You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than that, It seems to the faint and faltering man. Often the struggler has given up, When he might have captured the victor’s cup. And he learned too late . . . when the night slipped down How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the cloud of doubt, And you can never tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar. So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit - It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t say quit. 2 Dedication Dr. Gilbert Colina We, the graduating class of 1971, dedicate, with appreciation, The Violet Ribbon, to our Dr. Gilbert Colina . . . One who has encouraged when we were ready to quit, One who has shown sincerity during our most trying times, One who has shown patience when patience was needed, One who radiated joy when he entered the room, And above all . .. one who has given unselfishly ... his love. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you. You cannot escape the result of your thoughts, but you can endure and learn, can accept and be glad. You will realize the vision of your heart, be it base or beautiful, or a mixture of both, for you will always gravitate toward that which you secretly most love. Into your hands will be placed the exact result of your thoughts ; you will receive that which you earn; no more, no less. Whatever your present environment may be, you will fall, remain, or rise with your thoughts, your vision, your ideal. You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration. JAMES ALLEN 40
