The editor of the Centralian was Me- lissa Boyd and the ed- itor of the Cub was Linda Marquez. Before school be- gan in August the journalism staff worked busily sell- ing ads to finance the newspaper. The orchestra held five evening concerts. 'I'hey also performed at elementary schools, and at the Music Festival. The symphonic band which is the advanced band performed for ele- mentary schools and basketball games. They also held five evening concerts during the year. The team played well, but the lack of experience and the bad breaks caused many upsets, according to the coaches. Out of a 40-man roster, 28 were eighth graders and only six of the ninth graders had seen action before. Head Coach Greg Pomeroy was flanked by T. Roberts and F. Mad- rigal. The coaches would rather think of this season as a building year. 'This is the first trophy ever received by girls athletics in the history of CJHS. Team effort and oustanding ser- vers played a main part in the achievement, accord- ing to Coach Shirley San- ner. Freshmen play Well at home The freshmen basket- ball team got off to a good start, a CJHS placed fourdm in the Rosedale Invitational Tournament. Then the freshmen came back to beat High- land at home which started a streak and 52 went on to win all but one of their home games. Coach Hal Mealman feels the team did a fine job, but there were a few games that he thought the fresh- men should have won. The freshmen team ended with a record of six wins and nine losses. Roberts during pregame warmup. 51 ,IKM Teams ability goes far, Seventh grade Wins 13 It looked like the eighth grade team was going to have a pretty successful year, Coach Ken Clauder said, We started off with a 2-3 record before Christmas break but later the record proved dis- appointing. I feel the eighth grade team set a school record by scoring 61 points and losing to Coronado, stated Coach Clauder The eighth grade ended with a record of 3 wins and 6 losses. The seventh grade team had a very successful season in Coach Mike Hale's opinion. The seventh grade record was 13 wins and l loss, which was the most outstanding record in the past nine years. The seventh graders were undefeated in league play. The only loss was at Bonner Springs with a difference of one point. This year's team consisted of 12 boys that finished the entire season.
