We want a STOP DAY! We want a STOP DAY! A familiar phrase that has been chanted for a number of years as students of CMC make their march to 502 North Linn Street, the home of President Ralph L. Woodward. As the crowd grows larger and the chant gets louder, President Woodward opens the door and comes out to the porch to speak with the students . As he tells the students how hard they have worked and deserve a day of rest but also of the difficulty of calling a STOP DAY, the students shout louder. Finally after much kidding and joking our be- loved President announces tomorrow will be a STOP DAY. This is just one of the minor activities President Woodward carries through for the students and student morale . He has served the college longer than any other President, becoming president of Central Methodist College in June, 1950. An alumnus of the College, Dr. Woodward was professor of Pastoral Care, Director of Re- ligious Field Work, and Assistant Dean, Divinity School of Yale University when he was elected to the Presidency of the College. He received his A.B. degree from Central Methodist College in 1931 and the B.D. and the M.A. degrees from Yale University. In 1942, Central Methodist College conferred the Doctor of Divinity on him and Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia, conferred on him the Doctor of Humane Letters. For your twenty years of dedicated service, President Woodward, we thank you and honor you with this dedication. 20
