V Qgf DEDICATION DR. C. E. HIX, JR 4-n. wg.-.,,,, NE Q fi k No matter how early the hour of the day, one walking into T. Berry Smith will hear the friendly drawl of a good morning and know that Dr . Hix is either in his office or on his way to one of his 7:40 lectures. Since 1943 the students and members of the CMC faculty and ad- ministration have known Well this stately looking gentleman who goes about campus with his briefcase, never seeming to be in even the least bad mood. Dr. Clarence Eugene Hix, jr . came to Central as an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Religion . ln 1946, he was promoted to Professor in the capacity he now serves . A native of South Carolina, he attended Wofford College for three years . He graduated with an A .B. from Duke University in 1931, a B.D. from Duke University in 1934, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1937 . Dr . Hix is an ordained minister in the Methodist Church and regularly teaches in the Supply Pastor's School at Southern Methodist University . Dr . Hix has not only brought a great deal of knowledge to those of us that have been fortunate enough to have had him in lecture, but has also instilled in our minds the desire to seek out the truth and to search beyond the superficial. For these and many other reasons, Dr . Hix, we dedicate this yearbook to you. cAMPus CALENDAR is Wk 'K' F' 2 Lx', w '11 E- 'uf , ,Q SENIOR ATTENDANTS LINDA ROCHE GERALD EARLY HOMECOMING 1968 FRESHMAN ATTENDANTS PATTY JANSSEN MIKE O'CONNER SOPHOMORE ATTENDANTS LINDA DAWSON BUSTER DELAROCHE .2i,'iS2f!J1iQixIsY4 I- JUNIOR ATTENDANTS PAM PLUMMER JEFF HOGENMILLER KING DALE RIEBOLD ,zig E . II9 KCINONIA 'UM EW K1 Koinonia--a Greek word meaning fellowship--is a word that is often mispronounced and mis understood by those not familiar with the CMC campus. To CMC students this is a familiar word and frequent activity. The members of Koinonia, abbreviated Kii, are in interdenom- inational group of students interested in meaningful Christian fellowship and living. In addi- tion to the regular Sunday evening meetings, the members participate in a variety of activi- ties of benefit to the campus at large. The publication of Buzz Books and Lenten Devotionals are annual events, as are week-end retreats, open communion services, and the Carol Fest. Like the church of today, Kii is ever attempting to explore new avenues of experience and expression that will be more meaningful to its members. One of the exciting and most suc- cessful experiences of the year has been the coffee houses allowing free expression, discus- sion and creativity. -4 J -If KAPPA CHI ROW 1: Dave Van Horn, Marsha Radford, jane jones, Lari Grubbs, Gail Crabtree. The Student National Education Association consists of those who hold an interest in educa- tion. The monthly meetings try to present education from its many aspects. S.N.E .A. mem- bers heard student teachers speak to them of their experiences during their student teaching assignments in surrounding towns and in the inner city. They also heard educators of state- wide fame. In this way, S.N.E .A. prepares the student for his role as an educator. This year S.N.E .A. purchased audio Visual television equipment. Work projects were held to help pay for the new equipment. This equipment was found to be very beneficial to the stu- dent teacher. Guided by Dr. Grigsby and Dr. Smart and assisted by Miss Crawford and Mr. Dimond, S.N.E .A. is open to membership to all who are interested in education, be that person en- rolled in education courses or not. ALPHA PHI GAMMA Amid the turmoil of a hectic pledge week this year, the men of Alpha Phi Gamma celebrated the fraternity's 29th birthday by creating a 'unified bond which lasted throughout the entire 1968-69 school year. The homecoming float started things off. Central alumnus and old Moker Mike fMagJ Thompson carried the tradition of new stories and a talk on fraternal spirit during the annual Christmas dinner, followed a week later by the carol fest. The new semester brought the Very successful annual MOKER bloodmobile followed soon after by the all-school Sweetheart dance with Nancy Crumbliss now reigning as our new queen. Spring brought the mud-slinging sororities to Alpha Phi Gamma's annual play -day festivities--along with mem- ories of the Bavarian Picnic, bachelor parties, and the annual MOKER Spring Formal topping off another successful year. Activities stretched beyond fraternity functions also, including full participation in intramur- alsg student council, with Gerald Early as the 1968-69 President, little league flag football ably headed by Skip Stigallg Young Republicans, with that Southwestern man Lane Sander in the president's chair, along with active members in the Fayette J. C. 'S and other on and off campus activities. The MOKERS were proudly led throughout the year by President Nick Bernier, Vice -President Mehl Hahs, Secretary Craig Nolte, and Treasurer Skip Grigsby. l56 ff Nw A V-kfwfem T , L if. , Q. 1-m-Q,--. X. 0 Delta Sigma Psi is more than a fraternal organizationg it is a brotherhood of individuals all striving to attain those Hgentlemanly standards of life and conduct . Fifteen returning actives pledged seventeen energetic Garbae making a spirited fraternity . Delta Sigma Psi was well represented in campus organizations and honorary organizations: Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, Omicron Delta Kappa, Scribblers and Scrawlers, Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Lambda, Kappa Chi, Beta Beta Beta, C Club, House Councils, KMOE, The Collegian among others . This year the Delta Sigs sponsored a boy in the Boonville Training School. We furnished him with much needed art materials and spending money, Delta Sigs' social functions were not sparce , We had formal and informal parties, a hay ride, athletic contests, and our traditional Spring Formal--where the Delta Sig of the year and our Sweetheart were announced. The frat was led by Ron Ramsey, Chancellorg Gary Gutjahr, Vice-Chancellor, jim Reynolds, Keeper of the Sealg Warren Burgart, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Martinets Herb Mar- tin and Rusty Rinehart. Our nestors for the year were Profs . Brooks and Dy Reyes . As the years pass our memories may fail, but forget--NEVER! Delta Sigma Psi will always be a part of our lives . ,,,,-u.,-ev M. 1' - ,,,,,,.f-M . , ,M , GROUND LEVEL: Cleft to rightj C. E. Mohn, Mr. F. McKinzie, L. Long, D. Moxley, Dr. N. O. Long, R. Before you are a part of any campus life your concept of what going to college means is fragmentary, un- certain. Once you have become a part of the campus life, going to college means all of the things intangible and tangible that you encounter on campus every day. Only by being part of the campus scene can you truly absorb the climate, the way of life, the tempo, that reflects Central Methodist Col- lege. Liberal learning is the primary function of Central Methodist College. Here it is be- lieved that a liberal arts education is still the best hope for an enlightened, Christian citi- zenry. Central Methodist believes that voca- tional and professional specialization--an obvious necessity today--must be built on a broad acquaintance with the various human- istic and scientific disciplines. The business world, as well as the academic world, has recognized a culture gap among its leaders and is eager to Fill it. Central Methodist for over a century has been suc- cessfully striving to help fill that gap. With a deep desire to create a Christian, uplifting influenece beyond the gates of the campus, Central Methodist has upheld the liberal arts as an approach to life. lt seeks to train young people to be free, to relate what they learn to living. Through a liberal education, designed as a preparation for all of living, Central Meth- odist strives to prepare students not only to meet life directly and face it squarely, but also to animate their society and affect its course.
