Now it is open from 7 A.M. to 10 P.M. everyday except Sunday when it is open from 6 to 10 P.M. Intramural sports are no longer held here. and the whole building is open to the Student. Body at anytime, a privilege not enjoyed in the earlier days. Also the auditorium may be reserved by organiza- tions for specific occasions. The Eyrie now furnishes the meeting places for social and some professional organizations. Through all the changes that have occurred the Eyrie has remained a dwelling place for Centralites during their free time. t if 91

Luther T. Spayde Dean oi the Swinney Conservatory of Music The original Centenary Methodist Church was built in 1884. It stood on the western side of the campus with Science Hall to the north and Cupples Hall to the east. Preaching services were held up- stairs in the auditorium while the lower department was used for Sunday School and league meetings and as a lecture room by the college. The new Linn Memorial Methodist Church was completed in 1931. It is made of Bedford stone and is connected by arcades with the Swinney Conserva- tory on the north and the Parish House on the south. Linn Memorial Church The auditorium, finished in zenotherm and furnished with antique oak, has a seating capacity for 1200 people. The ground floor of the building is the Col- lege Chapel which serves for student assemblies and public services. The Cross Memorial Stone Tower at the east of the College Church has a base of 24 feet by 36 feet and a height of 96 feet. The walks leading to the entrance of the chapel pass beneath archways of stone. The tower was a gitt of Iames Thomas Cross and is a memorial to his parents, wife and children. The old gymnasium or, cracker box , was constructed in 1906. Through the years it was used for all indoor ath- letic events until the new field house was completed in 1949. It contains a bas- ketball court, shorter than present reg- ulation length, and this main floor is now used for women's P. E. classes and games. The lower floor contains showers and locker rooms for both P. E. students and Varsity Athletics. The Field House was completed in 1949 and in Iune, 1953 it was dedicated and named in honor of Dean Emeritus Errvstus Paul Puckett. It has a basketball court, a ten lap to the mile sixty-yard straightway cinder track, a baseball in- field and space for track and field events. High school regional basketball tourna- ments and an annual highschool invita- tional track meet are held here each year.
