SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Class Motto: Today we follow--Tomorrow we lead. ,, Class Flower: white Carnation Class Colors: Crimson and Gray First Semester Officers: Pres.-Acklin Knapp, V. Pres.-Earl Myreg Sec. Laura Carlson, Treas.-Pat Brown, S.B.R.-Pat Meyg S.A.A.-Jim McConnell. Second Semester Officers: Pres.-Dennis Syltebog V. Pres.-Jim DeC1e- ments, Sec.-Betty Orwilerg Treas.-Jim HbConnellg S.B.R.-Pat Mattosg S.A.A.-Pete Welch. Over seventy freshmen, a group larger than in any previous year, entered C.K.H.S. in 1939 with a detennination to raise our school in citizenship, sportsmanship, and scholarship. Though this number has dwindled throughout the four years in school, the aim has at all thnes been the same. After going through the rigours of initiations, we proved our good intentions by starting the year with a Valentine's Party in February, and by taking an active part in all school activi- ties, including sports. Class presidents for the first year were Wal- lace Callow and Tom Orwiler. In our sophomore year came the glory of being the initiator in- stead of the initiated, so we took full advantage of the situation. During this year we again proved our worth by having lu class members on the Honor Society. The band, Pep Club, baton twirling, and Debate Club found many active sophomores among them. In the field of sports- Gordon Berry, Jim DeClements, Bob Gillette, Earl Greenameyer, John Munro, Tom Orwiler, Harold Rasor, Homer Schaffert, Lloyd Ulery, and Pete Welch-earned letters. Our sophomore presidents were Juanita Hampton and John Munro. Came the fall of l9Ll ! we were juniors, upperclassmen at last!! Our play, NThe Haunted High School,H was declared a success, In ad- dition to the annual Junior Prom, the theme of which was a carnival, a new fete, a Junior-Senior Banquet was given. Scholastically high, the junior class comprised over one-third of the Honor Society. Thir- teen junior boys--Lloyd Ulsry, Earl Myre, Wallace Callow, Bill Graham, John Bishop, Gordon Berry, Dennis Syltebo, Jack Haverfield, Tom Or- wiler, Jim DeClements, Jack Johnson, Bob Gillette, and Pete Welch-- earned letters in sports. Seven juniors were elected to the Service Club. lla Harmon and Ed Sund were our presidents. Starting our senior year with a bang, we achieved 1001 stamp plan membership, thus putting 'AB on the plaque with previous year classes. Our senior play, NA Letter to the General,N was presented and proved to be a great success. Five a.m. Friday, March 19, saw L7 very sleepy seniors start on their excursion. The destination, Victoria, B. C. All who went will agree that they had a day of fun and interest probably never to be forgotten. On May 30, Baccalaureate services were held for our class. with Commencement, held on June 2, we started out to take our places in the changing world.
