f T X fu r 1' 9 if .Y ' C. F. JENNE. 43 School is a challenge-Now more than ever. The distractions, that the present world unrest produces, makes that challenge even more vital. It demands of us that we discover and under- stand the fundamental principles of our civiliza- tion and democracy. By so doing, we gain a better knowledge of what it is our nation and all its allies are nighting to preserve. - Our school suggests that we meet this chal- lenge to be better Americans and better world citizens by being better citizens of Central Kitsap High. JAMES H. HUEY. Principal. Adminisfrafiau SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The war brings into prominence our strengths and weaknesses as a people and nation, and we note the returning emphasis upon the asserted virtues of a period long past. Among these are the following: ' l. The idea of sharing alike: i. e., rationing. 2. The idea of self-sufficiency in the home, as far as possible: i. e., gardens, meat raising, etc. 3. The idea of conservation of everything useful: i. e.. time. materials and resources. 4. The idea of present sacrifices of personal comforts for loyalty to the common cause and the ultimate gain of greater security and freedom for all. 5. The idea of our responsibility for the 'welfare of children, the victims of war, and for the less fortunate everywhere. These are pretty well comprehended by Christianity and the Golden Rule. They are among the eternal virtues. and while we find them necessary in war, they are de- sirable in peace, and teachers and pupils in our public schools who would serve their country in this time of need should imbibe them. CARL F. .IENNE Superintendent JAMES H. HUEY
