THE TOWER, 1930 Speech Club President-DOROTHY CORNEAL Vice president-WILLARD WASSNIAN Secretary-DORIS ELBERT Treasurer-JOHN FENLEY Advisor-Miss RYSTROM The Speech Club emphasizes the useful a.rt side of oral English. The objectives of the useful art side of oral English are: faj to give training for better American speech. fbj To improve the conversation ability of each member of the organi- za.tion. Ccj To give training and practice in expressing thought. Cdl To motivate his study in other subjects. Cel To discover leadership. ffl To create in the school an interest in better American speech, and speech training. Some long twisting verses furnished exercises as well as amusement. One program of interest was a contest in the reciting of a poem. Four pupils entered and the members of the club voted first place to VVinifred Chapin who gave the poem at an assembly program. Other contributions to assembly were a reading of The Maker of the Flag and a talk on our merit system by Dorothy Corneal, and a talk on Work and Playv by Willard Wassman. - CJHs World Friendship Club PT6SldCHt GENEW'IEY'E RAYMER Vice president-VIOLET JOHNSON Secretary and treasurer-BETTY PETERSON a Faculty advisor-Miss ELSIE EVEN Tl e Wlorld Friendship Club was organized to help create a feeling of friendship belwdeen ourselves and the other nations of the world. Fach meeting opens with the reciting of the club motto: VVe believe in the Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man and the friendliness of the Universe. 'l his is followed by the forming of the friendship circle and the singing of the friend- ship song. A treasure chest to be sent to the Philippine Islands was purchased. This chest was filled by the girls with small articles of value to the Philippino children and mailed in June. Ruth Chapman's father entertained the club with moving pictures of his trip abroad. The Japanese Doll Festival at the Inn was of unusual interest to the girls. c.IHs f V Stamp Club President-ALBERT HIRS1' Secretary-MURIEL HELMER TFCHESIITCP-EW'EL1'N CHALGREN R6p0l't6I WILLlABI HAGEN Advisor-MR. GREEN ' The purpose of the Stamp Club is to enable its members to become acquainted with stamps of other countries. g Many members who have started without a collection have acquired many new stamps since joining. Everyone has enlarged his collection. The club has held many contests and stamp auctions enabling the members to obtain stamps. -q +7 7-

THE TOWER, 1930 Home Rooms PPCSlLT6Ht1'ANIELIA BAIRD Vice president-JUNIOR MEMORY Secretary-BEATRICE DINSMORE Social Cl13lI'ITliII11TNA LEE BUNDSCHUH hiiss Seidlis home room has done a great many interesting things in their meet- ings. -e The meetings werecalled to order by the president. The minutes were read and approved. The discussion of poor marks with good marks was carried on. The distribution of Art Exhibit tickets went on. A self rating test was given for the good of the pupils. Beulah hlason gave a reading. A play was given which was entitled The Bouscums Go To Tovysville. v Howard Johnson played his saw and clogged which was enjoyed by all. Lockers were cleaned. The discussion of tardies was of interest to all. The nomination of differentfcommittees was had for the Silver Tea. Sixty-two cents was collected for Silver Tea decorations. Some games were enjoyed by the Whole class. Every time report cards came out Miss Seidl Went over them with us and did us much good. The discussion of behavior in assembly did everyone good. Home bean games were enjoyed. We have some good rules for study that we try to practice. An inside track meet was enjoyed by all immensely. Our home room has been a great help to the members of it. VVe are 100 per cent in FLASHES and 100 per cent. in TOXVER subscriptions. ' - cms . The 8 B home room under the direction of ltliss Helen Jones has had many interesting meetings this year, led by Dick lNIcKeon, president, first semester and Floyd Followell, president the second semester. The home room members have practiced two plays, A Near Tragedy and A hlathematical Nightmare with eleven characters. The jokes of the laughing team. Dick lNIcKeon and George Parker were greatly enjoyed, as Well as several readings and magical tricks by various members. ' A The 8 Bls led all eighth grade home rooms in the amount collected from the sale of candy for Central's radio. They had 10095, Red Cross memberships. and FLASHES subscriptions, Won five scholarship C's out of the ten given to the eighth grade and have just finished a ten weeks record of no tardies. Y CJHS P1'8Sld6lll11l.xTAXINE THURESSON Vice president-THEODORA VVARNER Secretary-VIRGINIA VORIS Tl'63,SllY6T-'MARX' ANN PETERS Scholarship-GERTRUDE GRANT Teacher-Miss RYSTROM Our home room is a mixed group representing nearly every section in the ninth grade so we are called home room 127. Our teacher is Bliss Rystrom. VVe all take the F LASHES and are giving one to a seventh grade class. Wle had quite a good showing at the Silver Tea. Nineteen mothers and one father attended. Each parent and pupil signed in a register representing a heart made by Doris Egbert. Our scholarship chairman takes a record of all the pupils who receive any grades below C. The chairman also puts down on the cards all the things done inside and out of the class as tardiness, poor Work slips and all merits and demerits.
