THE TOWER, 1930 Speech Club President-DOROTHY CORNEAL Vice president-WILLARD WASSNIAN Secretary-DORIS ELBERT Treasurer-JOHN FENLEY Advisor-Miss RYSTROM The Speech Club emphasizes the useful a.rt side of oral English. The objectives of the useful art side of oral English are: faj to give training for better American speech. fbj To improve the conversation ability of each member of the organi- za.tion. Ccj To give training and practice in expressing thought. Cdl To motivate his study in other subjects. Cel To discover leadership. ffl To create in the school an interest in better American speech, and speech training. Some long twisting verses furnished exercises as well as amusement. One program of interest was a contest in the reciting of a poem. Four pupils entered and the members of the club voted first place to VVinifred Chapin who gave the poem at an assembly program. Other contributions to assembly were a reading of The Maker of the Flag and a talk on our merit system by Dorothy Corneal, and a talk on Work and Playv by Willard Wassman. - CJHs World Friendship Club PT6SldCHt GENEW'IEY'E RAYMER Vice president-VIOLET JOHNSON Secretary and treasurer-BETTY PETERSON a Faculty advisor-Miss ELSIE EVEN Tl e Wlorld Friendship Club was organized to help create a feeling of friendship belwdeen ourselves and the other nations of the world. Fach meeting opens with the reciting of the club motto: VVe believe in the Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man and the friendliness of the Universe. 'l his is followed by the forming of the friendship circle and the singing of the friend- ship song. A treasure chest to be sent to the Philippine Islands was purchased. This chest was filled by the girls with small articles of value to the Philippino children and mailed in June. Ruth Chapman's father entertained the club with moving pictures of his trip abroad. The Japanese Doll Festival at the Inn was of unusual interest to the girls. c.IHs f V Stamp Club President-ALBERT HIRS1' Secretary-MURIEL HELMER TFCHESIITCP-EW'EL1'N CHALGREN R6p0l't6I WILLlABI HAGEN Advisor-MR. GREEN ' The purpose of the Stamp Club is to enable its members to become acquainted with stamps of other countries. g Many members who have started without a collection have acquired many new stamps since joining. Everyone has enlarged his collection. The club has held many contests and stamp auctions enabling the members to obtain stamps. -q +7 7-
