JOHNSTON To si11g for enjoyment, prepare music for programs, and to learn how to read good music are the purposes of the Boys' Glee Club. VVe took part in the Christmas pageant, 'iThe Nativity, D Mrs. Wight directing. VVe also took part in the operetta, '6The lliagic lVIaker,' an operetta of VVestern setting, given on May Q3rd. ' lVe sang in a joint concert with the other two junior high schools the last of the year. lVe met everyday at club period. CJHS Harmonica Band President-GAYLORD FIELD Vice president-FLORENCE BLOCH Secretary-treasurer-LILLIAN JORDAN Advisor-MISS BIARVIN To learn to play the harmonica, to entertain others a.nd for the .pleasure of playing is the main purpose of the Harmonica Club. ' VVe have learned many new pieces, both modern and olden time ones. lllany of our members have played before our club. Some have formed a small group and played solos and duets. We tried out many of the members and chose Florence Bloch for president. We chose her because she kept time very well, and understood music. About May 1 we played for the G. A. R. at the municipal auditorium. CJHS Girls' Glee Club President-JOSEPHINE NICCLASKEY Secretary-BETTY LANDIS Accompanist-HELEN THOMAS Director-MRS. JOHNSTON kOur club with the boys' glee club under the direction of Mrs. Irene VVight gave The Nativity, a Christmas pageant. It was given in the Civic Auditorium to a capacity house on Sunday, December 15, 1929. The lVIagic lllakerf' an operetta, was one of the big successes of the year. A group of songs which were sung in a joint recital with the other city junior high schools was an interesting part of our work. lve sang for the Silver Tea in February and also gave a group of songs at the Baptist Church one Sunday evening, with Mrs. Johnston directing.
