THE TGWER, 1930 ' Silver Tea A One of the most successful and most delightful events of the year was the Silver Tea given on February IQ. The mothers were greeted by tl1e members of the student body council and Mrs. Brooks and were shown into the auditorium where a .program was given in their honor. ' Several selections were played by the orchestra under the direction of hir. Hil- verkus. The glee club under Mrs. Johnston sang three songs. The program was concluded by a French hlinuet given by eight of lVIiss lVIorgan's physical education girls. ' After tl1e program tl1e mothers Went to the home rooms which were nicely de- corated. Here they met tl1e teachers and were served by the students. -- - CJHS Parties hlany gala and glorious times were had at the parties given during our school year. The first was l1eld at the 'Women's Club House 011 November 27, 1929. During the intermission tl1e saxaphone quintette furnished entertainment. The saxa- phonists were Percy Carter, Doris hliller, LeRoy hliller, Curt.is Adamson. They were accompanied bv Miss Helen Jones at the pianu. The second pa.rty was given on January 10 at the VVomen's Club, and was spon- sored by the P. T. A. hlrs. Robel and lVIiss Hagaman directed many get acquainted games. Helen hlays' orchestra furnished music for the dancers. A prize Waltz was Won by Eddie VVelles and Kay Kelly. The third party was given on lVIarch 17 at the VVOHICHQS Club. Josephine Mills orchestra played many popular pieces. lVIrs. Logan's Dancing Academy presented a program during t.he intermission. Probably tl1e most successful dance was the one given at the Elks Hall on May 3. Don Jensen's orchestra furnished the music for the evening. Serpentine and bal- loons added to the festivity of the gala affair. CJHS Assemblies Central has had many interesting assemblies during the year. There were many good speakers whom everyo11e enjoyed. A student body assembly was presented once a month during which time many of the talented students participated. Some of the speakers were Mr. Priddy, who talked on circus lifeg Mr. Happy Goldsmith on tl1e right kind of food. Mfr. Gandy sang and illustrated his talk with many pictures. Mr. Jaegers spoke on tl1e intelligence of animals. Mr. Wirt gave a very interesting talk on world peace. Students look forward to these assemblies on Wednesday of each week.

THE Towsn, 1930 , The J Nativity 1 The N ativity,', a Yuletide candle service given by the Glee Clubs was pre- sented on December 15 at 4:30 p. m. in the hlemorial Auditorium, under the direction of Mrs. VVight. There were three vest.ed choirs of 156 voices, four elaborate scenes and many beautiful costumes. ltffrs. Johnston assisted with the carols and singing. The characters were, Sarah hiofl' as hlary, Frank Miller Hutchings as Joseph, Nina Kozlow as Gabriel, Kenneth Folsom as Zacharias, Allison Denning, Frank Miller Hutchings and Ruth Lines as the shepherds, and Kenneth Folsom, Jerry Bodewin and George Slinger as the three wise. men. The reader, Donna Faye Thalman, contralto soloist, Josephine hIcClaskey and violinist, Eleanor Dinsmore. The Nativityi' of this year took on the aspect of a VVorld Peace pageant. This was its seventh animal production. It has grown so much that it has become known outside of Riverside. The past two years it has been strictly a Central activity. Next year it will be sponsored by the schools of the city.

THE TOWER, 1930 a Magic Maker . The hlagic Makerv written by J. K. Kendall and directed by hlrs. lVIarian Johnston was given on May Q3 by the Glee Clubs. The play consists of a prologue and two acts. The prologues takes place in an outdoor scene on a mesa inhabited by Indians 1000 years ago. The two acts take place at tl1e Bar Q ranch at the present time. hlernbers of the cast were: Frank Tavaglione, Josephine 1XIcClaskey, Jules Covey, Audrey VVagner, Dick Vail, Frederick W'arner, Eugene Bloodgood, Howard Johnston, Ben hiilliken, Beryl Stewart, Robert Horton, Robert hlorris, Jeanette Simms, Robert Paschke, Dwight V elzy, Irene Engleman and members of tl1e Glee Clubs. This operetta is one of the best productions the glee clubs have ever presented. There are many fine voices and promising talent. - CJ HS Junior Red Cross The Junior Red Cross helped in many ways this year. They prepared large books, samples .of their work and exchanged them. Central received a very inter- esting book from some of the schools in another country. The Red Cross sent a box to other lands where children were starving, and have no parents or schools to go to. They filled the box with clothes, toys, books, aad many other needed things. All students who joined helped to do a great work. . CJHS Operetta One of the big events of the yearwas the Drama Club Show given in the Central Junior High Auditorium, Friday, April 11, 1930. The purpose of the show was to give the parent.s some idea of what the Drama Club had accomplished during the year. Three one act plays were given. They were: At The Stroke of Twelve, The Violin lVIaker of Creniona, and The Singing Lesson. The cast of At the Stroke of Twelve, U directed by Eva hlapes was as follows: lVIrs. Briggs, Frances VVilson, Liza t.he maid, lilary Louise Casey, Miss Sample, Frances Burke, Eileen the niece, Gertrude Grant, George Baker, Tudor VVall. The cast of The Violin hlaker of Cremona was Taddeo Terrari, Fred VVarriner, Filippo, his pupil, George Plows, Sandro, another pupil, Phillip Allen, Gammina, his daughter, Theodora Warner. The cast of The Singing Lessoni' directed by Theodora VVarner included: the singing master, Fred VVarriner, Lucy, his daughter, Thesba Hill , Lawrence Light- foot, Melvin Johnston, Tippy Toes, the butler, VValter Davison. Between the acts there was tap dancing by Irvin Logan and Jody Lugo, Josephine McClaskey and Audrey VVagner presented several popular song numbers called Sweet Harmonies. I -C Q4 5-
