With them and their love, trust, support and guidance, we strived to be the best class this high school and this community has ever witnessed. Without them the class of 1986 would have been just another class. It is for this reason among many more that the Treasures Staff in conjunction with the senior class proudly dedicates the 1985-86 yearbook or two very Special peeple Mrs. Gwen Thornell-Martin and Mr. Cliff Reiser. Both recipients this year are deserving ones. Mrs. Martin, an English teacher is active in school as well as out. She is the graduating class fresh- man, sophomore, andjunior class advisor, and also an active member in the P.T.S.A. She has made the once large, cold and scary halls of the Cen- tral Islip High School home to us for four years. Mr. Reiser stepped into the lives of the graduating class last year and gave us the knowledge of distinction, as a counselor he is also actively in- volved with the students, the student organization, team sports, and just having his door open at all times are just a few. He showed us where the stars were and it was up to last years junior class to reach them. Mrs. Martin and Mr. Reiser are two extremely Special peeple who not only are respected by their colleagues but by the members of the community as well. The class of 1986 and Treasures 1986 is proud and honored to dedicate this yearbook to them and have them accept. Thank you both for every- thing and much, much, more. entral Administration 4 james M. Gentilcore Richard J. Frizzi Superintendent Asst. As the varsity lacrosse team ended their season two springs ago a great season was in sight. There were playoff games to be won and scholarships to be earned. But when spring arrived new team members were low in number. Varsity Coach john Shaugnessy and jV Coach Alex Gutierrez were forced to abolish the Varsity team. Their only hope for a season and for future teams was the jV team. Scholarship bound seniors had no choice but to watch and help the underclassmen. Both the jV Squad and the existing past Varsity squads should be commended for their fine performances . . . both on and off the field. Although it did get off to a slow start the season proved to be a successful one. Coach john Packard stresses that Handball has and always will be played by the rules. The Coach is also proud of his teams. They have held the Sportsmanship honor for the last two years in the county and in the league. This goes on to prove that the CI PRIDE and class rules over all. E lb; This year's girl's junior varsity basketball team had a tremendous, Optimistic turnout. Whatever caused the turnout, loyal Central Islip fans crowded the gymnasium to watch and cheer on the hopeful team. Their coach, Mr. Carpluck, and assistant coach, Mr. Daly, were extremely anxious about the team and the season. Unfortunately for the record, the Squad had a bad season, losing all of their games. But the girls kept C. 1. Pride with them all the way and never lost the sportsmanship that C. I. is known for. This yearis team, being young, has a good chance for a great season next year. Those members who are going back to basketball next year will be going back with great experience from this year. Everyone will be looking forward to an outstanding season. But as a whole the teams Spirit broke through and became a driving force in their maturity and togetherness. Members of the team were extremely optimistic, felt good, and had a certain promising outlook that never left their minds. In the beginning of their season the jV and Varsity cheerleading were faced with a 'Coachless' club. Due to personal reasons the previous cheerleading coaches left their positions hoPing that there would in time be someone to fill their job. With the kindness of the HS athletic secretary, Mrs. Davey, the squads were kept intact until their new coaches, Miss. Patricia Cuttita and Miss. Cheryl Tucciarone stepped in. With the few experienced girls from past years the new coaching staff and squads learned with each other. This season was a good one even with its surrounding circumstances. The Varsity team went to the Long Island Cheerleading Competition at Brentwood HS and placed fifth out of more than twenty-five teams that were present. C.I. had the pleasure of sending 3 members to the All- League team Kenrick Angall, Ricky Oliver, and Dwight Gregory. Ricky also made All-County. Next years team will be stronger but they will be weaker in guidance. Head Coach,j0hn Shaugnessy, a football coach for 13 years has been dead coach of the football team for 4 years. He was picked coach of the year in 1984 for League 111. He is re3p0nsible for CLPRIDE and he is also re3ponsible for great teams that kept that pride going strong. His outstanding efforts will be missed. A strong comeback has occurred in Central Islip. Half way through their season, they went from a 2-3 record to a 7-3 record by winning 5 straight. To go on to the Championships, as one player stated, takes the team to be playing as a whole and not as individuals. If that is kept in mind, then we should be able to take the league.
