GIRLS' ATHLETICS The girls' physcal education director, Miss Rae Gerard, has insti tuted a wide range of activities for girls' participation The fall sports, consisting of hockey and soccer are played from September until the end of November Approximately 50 girls signed up for and played in hockey matches The players were divided into 5 teams Team A, captalned by Irene Swalne, placed lst A triangular meet was held here with Central Islip, East Islip, and Islip taking part The scores were as follows Central Islip I East Islip 2 and Central Islip 2 Islip l Three invitation games were played with Smlthtown at Smithtown and Central Islip lost two and tied one A playday was held at Adelphi College on October 25 in which Central Islip participated Approximately forty other schools were in attendance About 55 EiTlS signed up for soccer and were divided into four teams Two rounds of intramurals were played and Team 2, Captained by ChI'1Bt1H8 Farrell, placed lst An invitation game was played with Port Jefferson which Central Islip won by a score of 4 O winter sports, consisting of volley ball and basketball, started soon after Thanksgiving vacation and lasted through March Forty five girls were signed up for volley ball and placed on three teams Team 5, captalned by Mary Waddlngton, Placed lst after 2 rounds Two invitation games were played with Kings Park Central Islip lost one schools were ln attendance Central Islip placed 2nd Basketball started after Christmas vacation for which 50 girls signed p The girls were divided into six equal teams and Team l, captalned by Evelyn Jacobsen, placed lst after two rounds Invitation games were played with Smithtown in which lst, 2nd, and 5rd teams played Central Islip won all three games The scores were as follows Team l, 56 8, Team 2, 26 6 Team 5, 15 6 Another invitation game was played with Port Jefferson with Central Islip winning The scores were, lst Team 52 8 2nd Team 21 8 A team of the best players, consisting of Irene Swaine, Audrey Lindquist, Evelyn Jacobsen, Mary Waddlngton, Rose Spera, and Mary McCavanagh attended a basketball playday at Riverhead and placed first in their section The Senior Class won the interclass basketball tournament for the fourth consecutive year The class of '42 has had the banner, awarded for winning, each year since Miss Gerard has awarded it However, because the 'Grand Old Seniors' are leaving, the banner this year will be awarded to the runner up, the class of 1945 The final standing of the classes was Seniors, first, Juniors, second, Sophomores, third, and Freshmen. fourth The following Senior girls played their last game for Central Islip and '42 Audrey Lindquist, Irene Swaine, Mary Waddington, Mary McCavanagh' Ross Spera, Dorothy hadlec, and Isabella Henry The Spring sports started right after the Easter vacation, consisting of softball, archery, horse shoe pitching, and horse back riding . : , . 9 , . and won one game.
