A VIEW OF '42 PUBLICHED BY THE CEINIOR CLASS OF 1942 CENTRAL ISLIP HIGH SCHOOL ww ' ,J , V - U u v D E D I C T I our loyal friend and advisor and who has had a share in helping us through our high school years into the wide world, we, the members of the Senior Class, in grateful acknowledgement, dedicate this book A O N To Miss E1leenJHammil1, who has been Central Islip High School March so, 1942 Dear 42's, Few people in this life have the privilege of watching young America develop through four years of High School Those of us who are in these positions where we can witness the progress you have made and the advancement of other clas es before you, feel that we are indeed fortunate and we experience no less a thrill at the vision of our expectations for you than you enjoy in the realities you plan to relive in this 'View of 42 cause I feel that I must express to you individually, and as group, something which will make a lasting impression on you and which will serve to preserve for you the happiness of youth I have walked along with you through your high school days one should retain and treasure for l1fe's fullest realization This thought is that you should keep your own individuality or, in other words, 'Be Yourself' It would seem, perhaps, that youth is the most versatile actor in life, but this is not so because in youth we find true originality, and deep sincerity of purpose which is so lacking in later life ln what we term 'our responsibilities' The character which God gave you can be molded somewhat, and your personality will be changed in many ways by your experiences, but you must, in going through these valleys, and over the hills, strive to hold fast to and use those talents with which He created you No one has ever expressed the thought better, and I hope, or wish for nothing better than that, 'If to your own self you will be true you cannot then be false to any man' Yours most s cer X I I. It is not4too easy to write a final message to you be- a . On November 14, 1941 the Senior Class presented their annual Senior Play It was entitled nYours Truly Willie ' It was the story of a typical American Family, The Phlfers, and what happens when Bob Phifer KPaul Fazlol suggests giving a radio broadcast to celebrate Willie lWalter Smith! birthday The idea is readily accepted by Mr Phlferf Dennis O'KeefeJ and Mrs Phlfer CDorothy Kadlechwhg start making plans for the big celebration The plans for the bro dcast do not keep Cupid from working for love still per slets between Wlllle and Virginia Lesile CHazel Hearll, Bob and Evel n Harris CMary Murphyl, Grace Phifer iMary Glerkel, and Hugh Knox Kwilliam Humphrey The broadcast is kept running smoothly by the announcer, Graham Prescott CErnest Houck! but in the midst of everything Willie comes in choking He ha swallowed a collar button When Willie ls revived and things calm down the broadcast is over, and the audience is weak from laughing Everything ends happily for everyone The brordcast is a huge success for the audience thought the collar button episode to be part of the program, Graham P Prescott receives a new contract, Nr Ph1fer's business is increased and love con quers all as far P the young people are concerned The entire cast turned in superb performances and their naturalnese and smooth ness of presentation reflect a great deal of credit on Mies Sullivan who directed the play It will be many years before the audience will forget the Senior Quartette of Dorothy Kadlec, Doris McCrone, Audrey Lindquist, and Mary Murphy, which Sans its way into the hearts of the audience, and many more years before they forget our Senior Play, 'Yours Truly Willie ' J Everything goes well until the night of the broadcast.
