The Spirit Of C-H Hardworking, spirited and enthusiastic are what the cheerleaders at our school represent. In the spring of each year the senior cheerleaders begin their training program for prospective cheerleaders. After two weeks of hard practice, tryouts are held and six varsity and six junior varsity are chosen. The cheerleaders practice two hours a day, five days a week in the summer, and for 1V2 hours everyday after school. In addition to the practices, cheering at games, planning pep assemblies, decorating the gym, and sparking school spirit and pride are some of the duties ofa Central-Hower cheerleader. The girls must also maintain a C average. Mrs. Jennifer Waltemate is the advisor, and she feels that dedication is the number one quality a cheerleader should have. New Director Leads C-H Choirs Students interested in music and voice make up the choral department at C-H. The choir presented three school concerts: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a spring concert. They participated in the choirs- in-the-round, an all city competition, as well as the solo and ensemble contest in February. For the festival in May, 20 choir members from each high school in Akron were chosen to sing. The choir also sang during commencement and for clubs and organizations in the area. They sponsored a Broadway musical for the entertainment of the student body and sang for the community Christmas tree lighting ceremony in December. Outstanding performances were presented not ,only by the Girls Ensemble but also by the Madrigal Singers under the direction of Mrs. Carol Hayward who also organizes and directs the main body of the choir. - 273, ,. 1 wig-i'4.,,4 ACAPPELLA CHOIR Row 1: S.
