The Central hoys suc- ceeded in bringing home the state championship trophy and the actual championship in the doubles division, hy eliminating Minneapolis North, the tourney favorite, in the first round. This meet was held at the liniversity of Minnesota tennis courts on ,lune 6 and 7. The l9l8-49 tennis squad members were Faye Smith. Mary Lee Husehy. Lorraine Hood. John Nutt- flza aelfi Qadea cg-econ! Norm Kragselh. captain of the Central golf team. took individual honors with a first place in the region T meet and second in the state championship meet. Ronald Johnson. Dick Kohlbry, and Ronald Pontinen completed the team which had two meets in the sea- I1 ing, Bruce Bixon, Ray Hill, and Tom Joyce. Central won the District 26 title with Faye Smith winning girls' singles and teaming with Mary Lee Huseby to win the girls' doubles championship. John Nutting lost to Ron Main of Proctor in the boys' singles division but teamed up with Bruce Bixon to win the boys, doubles. Prior to the District meet, Central overwhelmed Proctor and Cloquet in dual matches. ilfl gdb 0lfl'Clldl4fl6Ili son, their first in the spring, when they were defeated by Cathedral 9 - 3, and the second in District 26, in which they were defeated by Denfeld after they had played nine extra holes. Denfeld won tiil a five- stroke margin.
