Scrap Day flrouses War Spirit Hundreds of Central high students, aided by more hun- dreds of grade school chil- dren, scraped alleys, yards, streets, cellars, junk piles and highways the afternoon of October 9, and with the aid of every possible means of conveyance, piled up on school grounds enormous col- lections of scrap of all kinds. Everything from chicken wire and license plates to beds, boilers and car bodies was brought in as District Number Twenty students gathered approximately sev- en hundred tons in about four hours, nearly half of the total being piled in front of the high school. Parents and patrons do- nated cars and trucks to speed the collection. City crews worked Sunday, metal classes Tuesday, and army trucks and soldiers Wednes- day following the drive, moving the two enormous piles of scrap from the Central campus to the city depositoiy. dr-'df'-'fv2M4.b' fi-ej2f?.u7u,L-.W UL-x.,..g 1 M3133 MM- - M 74: ACTIVITIES N -2 1534 : ,gxffgaiiiir , . x .nf 'P dl 1352, -K.
