Hill ard Tech trains students in vocational skills David Bailey shows Greg Eckles how to clean pistons with Hillyard Technical School Offers boys in all St, piston ring groove cleaner during their class at Hillyard's. Joseph high schools an excellent Opportunity to learn new skills as well as proper procedures in individual fields of vocational skills. In training the boys for possible future occupa- tions, this school offers such courses as electronics, auto mechanics, machine shop, welding, carpentry, drafting, cabinetmaking, and printing. The printing class publishes the School Review. Senior Kenny Loomis sands the fender of his car before re- painting it during his class at Hillyard Technical School.

Students learn industrial skills, blue print reading Ny- - - ' 'Y r ' l ,. 2' . . Senior Dave Martin smooths the inside of a wooden bowl on the wood lathe to complete one of his woodworking projects. Junior Mike Rock uses the mortiser machine for drilling square holes to make tenon joints in legs for a game table. , GH! xt? 37 Knock! Knock! Whiz! Whiz! Bang! Bang! Bang! These are a few of the noises one hears when he goes through a section of Central called 'tthe village. The student learns mechanical drawing, metal crafts, wood- working, and machine shop. Woodworking I introduces the student to the inr- niture making industry, while in machine shop the pupil learns to use hand tools and read blueprints. Mechanical drawing emphasizes the basic ideas of en- gineering and drawing, and metal crafts stresses the construction of metal objects. U Junior Bruce Wilkinson works at his desk on a project for Mr. Green during his fourth hour mechanical drawing class. Sophomore Jim Wilson cuts a piece of wood on the electric saw for a wood project during Mr. Evans' Woodworking I class. g

Home Ec classes prepare, serve ROTC luncheon '- p Sophomore Lisa Hefner helps Debbie Levin decide which branch to hang a Christmas ornament on for the window case display. Centra1's Home Economics Department, headed by Miss Frances Wright, purchased new china this year. They also received a donation of twenty-five dollars worth of meat from the Pork Association. Students may choose from eight elective courses: Home Economics I, advanced clothing, child develop- ment, family living, senior home economics, home decoration, personal culture, and advanced foods. During her first hour advanced foods class, Debbie Ingram prepares chocolate filling for the pie that she is making. During their sixth hour Home Economics I class, freshmen Julie Harris and Pam Ford practice the art of embroidering under the instruction of Mrs. Elaine Derks. hr 3 . an my W ii New ,i Fife
