Languages promote international feeling Taking one of the four foreign language courses at Central makes it possible to learn more about international neighbors and how to converse with them. French, German, Latin, and Spanish instruc- tors teach their students the fundamentals of the languages, such as grammar, vocabulary, and verb forms. By listening to tapes and then re- peating words and phrases, students learn correct pronunciation. Pieces of literature reveal facts about cultural aspects of the country. French and Spanish students have clubs, and all the language courses except German have annual banquets for the students. A new Spanish III class enlarged the language department this year. Nancy Ruoff, first year German student, learns correct pro- nunciation of the language by listening to tape recordings. Ma' on 1 . 4 1 X, A 2 Sei IT13

Senior Rhonda Thomas contemplates the many challenging mathematical concepts encompassed in Central's curriculum. With the growing importance of numbers in our rapidly advancing world, mathematics is be- coming more important in a person's education. Many people think of mathematics as cold and precise, but in reality, creativity is a necessary factor in developing formulas. Students at Central are offered general math, which may benefit them in everyday prob- lems. For those wishing to investigate the struc- ture and method of higher mathematics, the courses of study offered include algebra, geome- try, trigonometry, math analysis, and calculus. In the solitude of the main hall, Karen Hansen labors over a trigonometry test she missed when she was absent. 1, X fn-
