To unlock and under- stand the mysteries of our universe, education in the specific fields of science is required. Study of the sciences is difficult even if one enjoys itg there is room only for the intellects and hard workers. Every science student's life is faced with the same three questions-What, why, and how? This inquisitive attitude is what supports a scientific idea. Experimentation and knowledge provide an- swers. Central's science courses supply knowledge for students who have curiosity. Chemistry and physics are two physical sciences taught at Central. The biological course is composed of botany, the study of plants, and zoology, the study of animals. Theories and knowledge from each classification of science are combined in general science. the method oi finding a new volume of a substance by means of mathematics. In health class Rhonda Norris and Sharon Hudson point out and explain the various functions of the human heart. skills in business fields Black examines Ready . . . Go! The rat, tat,.tat of speeding typewriters fills the classroom following those two words so familiar to many Centralites. In this way, students are drilled to increase speed and efficien- cy in typing. This course is taught by Mr. Don Francis, Mrs. Betty Bartles, and Mr. Linus Dowell, business department chairman. In secretarial training, taught by Mrs. Carol Cutler and Mrs. Bartles, students study advanced typing and shorthand, filing, and accounting. They also learn to operate adding machines, mim- eograph machines, and ditto machines. Other business courses offered are bookkeep- ing, which deals with financial aspects of business, shorthand, general business, and business law. While Sherryl Kephart transcribes from a dictaphone, Sheri Koch uses an adding machine during their secretarial class. In Mr. Robert Pumphrey's bookkeeping class, Mary Thomas begins Work on one of her bookkeeping assignments. Mary Sargent concentrates on a fundamental typing rule - keep your eyes on your book while you are typing.
