Central's Science Depart- ment, under the direction of Mr. Lecil Carroll, has placed a special emphasis upon the student's mastery of a more extended knowledge of the World about us. The freshman may begin his years at Central in the study of general science. In this course he acquires an overall view of the scientific field. The sophomore becomes acquainted With plant and animal life in biology. The junior and senior view the composition of a human body in health, or they apply the laws of Charles and Boyle in physics and chemistry. Each year, as the science student progresses, his scientific knowledge increases. Courses become harder, just as each year the journey into the world of science becomes more advanced. J. B. Morgan shows how a microscope is needed for all work in a biology class. She is looking at algae from a pond. le Chuck Pasek is using the Mercurial Barometer in general science. Evidence of the depart- ment at work is seen at PTA meetings, Christmas faculty meetings, the open house in the spring, and the showcase in the annex. Homemaking may lead to a career in teaching, business, dietetics, re- search, and public and social welfare as well as family living.
