After many days of earnest work, the boys in wood shop proudly display the results. ' .S v !f E XXX The courses of wood shop, metal shop, and mechani- cal drawing are included in the industrial art's curriculum ofTered at Central. After learning the distinct art of constructing many varied objects, the students are encouraged to build articles which will be useful in their own homes and which will further enable them to apply the knowledge gained from these classes in later life. From these two classes come excellent pieces of furniture and numerous tools. The mechanical drawing classes offer the students a brief glance into more advanced studies. It is of in- estimable value to those who plan to enter the field of engineering. The industrial arts are extremely important and useful to any student wishing to learn practical lessons. What's The Homemaking Department prepares girls for roles as future homemakers. In the courses of Homemaking I and II girls learn the fundamentals of sewing and cooking. During the school year the classes cook, plan meals, study interior decorating, sew practical garments, and learn the essentials of child care. The Homemaking II class of 30 girls organizes and handles a great deal of the extra work of the department's activities. The girls in this group serve refreshments at faculty meetings, select a gift for the school, and plan the occasion when students' parents visit the department to view the work of the classes. This spring the classes held a style show displaying some of the near-professional sewing the girls had done. It was a fitting climax to a wonderful year in Home Economics. Cooking? 21

Every student must be able to find a vocation which will make him happy, which will enable him to use his talents to the fullest, and which will help him to succeed. Central High School oflers a program which is well adapted to the needs and interests of the students. Through Hillyards Vocational School, boys can learn about auto mechanics, radio and television repair, and printing. Co-operative Occupational Education QCOED affords the chance for students to learn and master salesmanship both in school and on the job. These courses provide a proving ground for future years of clerical and mechanical occupations. Judy Frazier. a C. O.
