S M r. George Blackwell 4 .wma A prominent figure in St. Joseph, George L. Blackwell, has won the respect and ad- miration of all for his outstanding Work HS Superintendent of Schools. Formerly a teacher of social studies and assistant coach at Central from 1931 to 1938, Mr. Blackwell was instrumental in the organization of the present Forum Club. Leaving Central, he became principal of Roosevelt School for a time, from which he advanced to business manager in the main office of the school board. He capably held this position until he assumed the office of Superintendent of Schools when Mr. Tracy E. Dale went into the army in 1943. ' Eoafufafg ' Standing: George L. Blackwell, Harry C. Herschman, Alva F. Lindsay, David W. Hopkins, W. Fairleigh Enright. Seated: Ray V. Blomfield, Mrs. John Wyeth, E. F. Garvey, Mrs. Paul Knepper. Assisting Mr. Blackwell are six distinguished members of the St. Joseph Board of Education. It is the Board who is responsible for laying a foundation for a more progressive school system in our city. Among its many and varied duties, Page 8 the Board helps to set up school budgets and manages all finances. As the result of its untiring efforts, the young people of St. Joseph have been afforded greater opportunities to prepare them- selves to become leaders of our city and better citizens of the world.
