Looking through rose- colored glasses, we see the world with hope, happiness, and optimism. We seek what is best and are convinced we will find it. Our world is a rose- colored world of dreams, success, and friendship, where the sky is our only limit. It is a world all men should share. 2 X . We realize that our goals for the future must be achieved, our dreams made, and our happiness found. We constantly seek knowledge, so that we may find direction. With this insight we discover that our world can be what we want it to be. No man can be too optimistic, too rosy-eyed, for with hard work, knowledge, and faith, anything can be achieved. K The Braves check the standings during the Charger Relays. Although our record doesn't show it, the swim team faired well in competition. The team was larger than in previous years with biggest addition coming in the girl's squad. We acquired a reputation among area schools as being the most spirited and respected. Seniors Andy Roberts, Brick Ayola, Ross Nguyen, Dawn Blackard and Pat Shackelford contributed many victories in their individual events and will be missed next year. Overall, we had six swimmers qualify for the state meet, four of these were from our strong girl's squad. Seniors Billy Pugh, Bobby Hunt, Mark Jones, Jerry Carmona, Larry Watson, and Jimmy Ivy led the Central baseballers as they struggled through a disappointing '78 season. Our hitting was periodic at best, and our pitching staff lacked the necessary depth for success. We got off to a slow start with bad weather and an average of five errors per game from which we never recovered. Graduation left us with a totally new team for next year. We departed from tradition in the arrangement of our prom and commencement. Our prom was moved from the Mayo Hotel and we became the first Tulsa high school class to graduate from the new Per- forming Arts Center. Yet, amid these changes from our new school, we remembered the tradition our class represents. We are the last of the old Central in downtown Tulsa. We are the last of 40,000 students who knew the plea- sures and disappointments of those four flights of stairs and basketball games in the pit, the last of an era in Tulsa's history. Our graduation was more than just a graduation. It was a transition of our most precious asset, tradition. As students and now as alumni, the Class of '78 will always strive to maintain those certain traditions which made Central king among other schools and continues to make it the richest in spirit, history, and identity. Ourjunior play, Bad Day at Gopher's Breath, opened the new auditorium with large crowds. Our senior play, Cactus Flower, raised over 31,000.00 and also attracted good crowds. lt was a comedy of lies, mistaken love, and false identities. For those of us lucky enough to participate, the plays brought some 'of our greatest memories of high school. We had long scripts and late rehearsals, but the money raised and standing ovation received on closing night made it all worth while. I only wish we could do it again. He led us through the storms of racial prob- lems and the struggle for a new building. He has worked to preserve Central's tradi- tions through the confusion of change and the gaps left by declining enrollment. While the view is best, the top is a lonely place to be. Mr. Tucker has had command of a ship suddenly surrounded by stormg however, the storm is over and Central has settled down to a calm sea. Mr. Tucker and Central have both survived. You stopped being afraid of the dark when you started hugging your Teddy bear. Then you gave up Teddy for that shiny new bike with the training wheels. Then you gave up training wheels and started first grade. You felt so grown up and wise. You rode a bike with only two wheels and had a pencil box of your very own. Somehow you make it through grade school, your first girlfriend and falling off your bike. Then junior high. You knew for a fact that no one knew as much as you did. Then onward, to the hallowed halls of Central High. You finally made it. Sophomore! Just the sound of that word made your pulse speed up. In the bustle of books, classes, and football games, you realized that the world had changed. lt looked different. Better, bigger, somehow, it looked - good. Without even knowing it, you had donned your rose colored glasses. The world hadn't really changed, but you had. Your rose colored glasses are helping you to see what you need to see. Through the tinted lenses you see hope, love, laughter, and life: Life as it needs to be, life as you want it to be. High school is over, a new life is beginning, and you know now the future is limitless. The big, beautiful, rose-tinted world is yours now!
