VTW . I J The English departments basic aim was bolstered by a new and exciting develop- ment. The department placed primary in- terest on the students understanding and respect tor the worlds great literature. Reasoning that reading was the basis for understanding literature, the department prepared to build a solid foundation for its students. A reading laboratory, under the supervision ot Mrs. Bernice Tomlinson, was formulated tor sophomore pupils. lts ob- jective Was to improve speed and compre- hension. This strengthened the student's essential discernment ot literature, which aided his perception ot humanity itself.
