Typina, shorthand, notehand, bookkeeping and business law were some of the courses offered in the business department. Overhead projectors and tape recorders enabled the teachers to present the daily material in an advantageous manner. Supervised by Mrs. Phyllis Stokley, the department chairman, the business depart- ment also offered co-operative office edu- cation. Audio-visuals f-lssist iii Special Education Classes created especially lor the slow learner made up the department ot special education. Under the guidance ot guali- iied teachers, this department offered vari- ous subjects to the students which were taught at a reduced rate oi speed. Tests designed by department heads were given to determine which students needed to take these special classes. Each pupil received a grade as in the regular class, except that he was graded by the degree ot his work and the rate ot his ace complishment on assignments. ln addition to required subjects, lite sci' ence and family living were otiered to pres pare these students tor their personl lives and goals after leaving Central. Besides these slow classes, speed reads ing courses were ottered before school to those college-bound students interested in reading taster and comprehending more.
