Foreign Travels Stimulate Faculty Members Several members of Central's faculty be- came renowned travelers during summer vacation as they journeyed to various o- verseas countries. Miss loyce Saunders, assistant principal, and Miss Anne Crotch- ett, English instructor, toured a number of legendary spots in Europe. Among the places they visited was Amsterdam, Hol- land, Where they spent the day with our 1967 American Field Service Exchange student, l-lanneke Teekens. ln connection with the AES program, Mr. Tom Turnbaugh, our Student Council sponsor, taught social studies at Dunedin, Otago, in New Zealand. Many of his per- sonal experiences were related to students in a general assembly during the fall. Also during the fall, about fifteen of Central's teachers attended the Human Relations Institute held at Roosevelt lunior High School. The purpose of the lnstitute was to promote understanding among all beliefs, religions, creeds and races. Mrs. Alexander, an English instructor who par- ticipated in the program, remarked to one of her classes, My greatest desire is to impart some vision of the Worth of all hu- manity, and to further a plea of eternal peace for all lands and ours. While on the high seas en route to Europe during the summer, Miss Anne Crotcliett mans the lifeboat ofthe SS Nieuw Amsterdam in a practice drill.
