Completes Fifth Active Year as Principal Launching his fifth year as Central's amiable principal, Mr. Carl L. McCafferty set about his numerous duties long before the school doors officially swung open on September 5. Even though presiding over faculty meetings, general assemblies and the Board of Directors took up much of his time, Mr. lVlcCafferty spent many hours vis- iting classrooms and talking with students. As our Big Chief he enthusiastically sup- ported the Central Braves at many of their athletic competitions. ln connection with his continuing inter- est in recognizing academic achievement, Mr. McCafferty acted as general chair- man of the city-Wide B. W. Knight Scholar- ship Fund drive. With SlOU,OUU in scholar- ships for Tulsa seniors as his goal, he co- ordinated the fund's money-making proj- ects. Among these projects were the Tul- sa premiere of the movie The Young Lending a helping hand, Mr. Iv1cCfaffQrty distributes bone-fit posters. Americans and an all-star high school football game. Several civic associations this year, as in years past, had a capable and hard Worker in Mr. McCafferty. Last Tune he was appointed to a two-year term on the Board of Trustees of the Civitan interna- tional Scholarship Committee by the or- ganization's president. Mr. lVlcCafferty is also one of seven members of the Okla- homa Committee of the North Central As- sociation and is on the Cklahoma Educa- tion Association's Board of Directors. Weekends, holidays and vacations dur- ing the year often found Mr. McCafferty pursuing his favorite sport of hunting guail and pheasant. An able fisherman as Well, he traveled over l7,U0O miles from Tulsa to Flin Flon, Manatoba, during the summer to catch lake trout and Wall-eyed pike. The trip proved profitable as he brought back sixty gallons of fish fillets.
