Teachers Broaden Educational Experience A teacher's education never ends. Besides learning each day from Work- ing with teenagers, Central teachers acquired additional training through a Wide variety of trips and programs. During the month of August, sev- eral counselors and administrators from across the country journeyed to Annapolis to study the curriculum of the nation,s naval academy. lVlr. Joe Lemley, who was one of this touring group, met with the Annapolis staff in daily discussions of the school's program. One aspect concerning the faculty was particularly interesting to Mr. Lemley: half of the faculty is ci- vilian and includes the top intellectual talent in the nation. Also in August, lVlr. George Dorsch, junior counselor, participated in a nine-weeks course in counseling and guidance at the University of Okla- home. The group, sponsored by the National Defense Act, consisted of thirty guidance counselors from New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Kansas. Participants were select- ed by analysis of written applications and were divided into six co-ordinated groups. The course included inter- viewing local high school students and administering of personality, interest, and analogy tests. lVIrs. Ethel Johnson and Mr. Tom Turnbaugh took advantage of ten Week courses in economics last fall. The survey course, conducted in Weekly ninety minute sessions, was given at the University of Tulsa. As a refresher course for history teachers. it presented an up-to-date concept of our fast-growing economy. Through each experience, Central's faculty readied itself to meet the changing trends and needs of American high school education. PATIENTLY waiting for a tug on his line, Mr. Joe Lemley hopes this will be the one that won't get away. as ' -Si My , - ,. awk. .. 2 'dau
