Superintendent of City Schools TQ TIJE CLASS of 1927 I bring greetings and the heartiest good wishes, both for myself and for the people of Tulsa, who through their good-will, civic wisdom, and co-operation, have given you rich op- portunities of education from kindergarten through high school. Few boys and girls anywhere have better, and right well have you used them. Of all the youth of Tulsa who began their school work here or elsewhere a dozen years ago you have persisted to the endj you have used most fully the opportunities provided to prepare yourselves for life and for service. The public school is the highest expression of democracy and of its fundamental prin- , . . . .. .Ws.w..wwu . . . uw ciple of interwoven, reciprocal service,-all for each and each for all. Iilere all have combined to give each of you opportunity for the beginning of the fullest and best individual development, to the end that each may in turn contribute freely and un- selfishly his full part to the common wealth and the common welfare. For twelve years the schools have wrought with you to establish your health and phys- ical vitalityj to broaden your knowledge and increase your love for truth and your ability to find it,' to give you the beginnings of sbill in some line of service and profitf to fix in you the habit of forming right judgments, patiently and fearlesslyj to give you the power to appraise and appreciate more fully the beauties of nature and art, righteousness in human conduct, the deeper harmonies of the soul, the best things of the spfrit,' to help you form noble and adequate purposes and establish worthy aimsf to nourish and strengthen in you the altruistic good-will which will turn all else to your own good and to service of man and God. They have tried to give you the power of self-initiative, self-guidance and self- restraint, which mahe for self-control and for democratic freedom. Your four years of high school correspond with my four years of service as superin- tendent of schools in Tulsa. We were freshmen together. I have watched your progress with loving interest. I have faith in you. I believe you will find your way to higher and fuller preparation, to noble liv- ing and fine service. I believe you will pay the price of tlze great reward of life well lived and worh well done. Your opportu- nities are unlimited. May all that is good and best be yours, P. P.
