Cflncf Or OJecun , { { The outstanding success of the Central High School marching and concert bands this year has been due largely to the tireless efforts of its director. Mr. Roger K. Maier not only is a talented musician himself, but willingly directs his abilities toward a goal of musical proficiency in each band member. As a result of his sincere interest in the individual student and his devotion to duty as a band director, Mr. Maier has set this year a precedent for musical excellence that Central High School bands of the future may be proud to follow. Centra] High School can well be proud of its band, drill team, and majorettes. This year they performed excellent pre-game and half- time shows at all but one of the Charger’s games, and their precision marching and rous- ing music earned them high praise wherever they went. Representing Central High School and Lunenburg County, they traveled to many parades in various parts of the state, and re- ceived trophies and praise for their efforts. They took part in the University of Virginia Band Day festivities at Charlottesville, and, as a fitting tribute to their excellence, they were chosen to travel to Chicago in July to represent the Lions Clubs of Virginia and the state of Virginia at the International Lions Clubs Convention. They were chosen over many other bands throughout the state, and this was indeed quite an honor. The Girls’ Precision Marching Drill Team is one of the absolute finest in the state, and our majorette squad is known for its excellent performances. Many long and hard hours of practice go into producing the excellent results that have come to be standard procedure with these groups, and the Central High School students and faculty can well be proud of the Central High School Marching Band, Girls’ Precision Drill Team and Majorettes. 104
