Davidson County Public Library 602 South Vain Street Lexington, forth Carolina 87292 Presenting Sfie 2962 Sparfan Volume V Central Higfi Scbool Cexingion, Nov id Carolina re wot God gave you a body sturdy and strong He gave you the choice to do right or wrong. You can make, you can break You can cherish or kill Be a true man — a brute man It ' s just as you will. God gave you a brain to do your part Make it lead a nation or draw a cart You can fill it with gems—or staff it with slime Make it live for a day— or live for all time. God gave you others just like you He gave you people and things to do You can help— you can harm— you can take— you can give Be a neighbor or a stranger— right where you live. God gave you a soul that can grow or shrink Make it black or white by the thoughts you think It can sink to the level of sordid sod Or climb to the mountains and talk with God. Time rushes rapidly as the curtain falls on the high school life of the Senior Class of 1961-62. Our senior year was a time of finality and a time of expectation. We eagerly anticipated our graduation day, but during those final moments with our classmates and teachers, the whole parade of events passed before us in our minds. As w e receive our diplomas and bid goodbye to Central, we must set forth on new pathways in an unexplored world; armed with devotion and pride for our school. . . 33 35 mm junior C ass Officers RODDY PENRY Reporter LARRY GARNER Secretary-Treasurer LARRY CROTTS Vice President JIM GRAHAM President 44 45 juniors BRENDA ALLEN ROSEMARY BATES LINDSAY BERRIER LUCY BOWERS CARETHIA BURKHART LINDA ALLEY JUNE ANDERSON GEORGE BECK JOHNNY BILLINGS BOBBY BRADY CARROLL BURRIS TONY BECK ROY BILLINGS LARRY BRIGGS BETTY ASHBY PHYLLIS BEEKER WANDA BLACK LARRY BROADWAY DIANE BYERLY VIVIAN CHURCH GEORGIA AVERY JOANN BELL GAYNELL BOWERS BROOME GENE CLARK 46 LAWRENCE CODY TED CROSS JERRY EARNHART GARY EVERHART JUNIOR COE LARRY CROTTS DONNA EASTER GILBERT EVERHART TERRY CONRAD SYLVIA CROTTS GAY NELL EDDINGER EVELYNE COPPLEY MARILYN COPPLEY I ... The primary responsibility of the homeroom representa- tive is to inform his homeroom of the decisions and actions which are made by the Student Organization. Each representative represents his homeroom and brings before the Student Organization any business that the homeroom would like to have discussed by the Student Organization. Another function of the homeroom representative is to sell tickets to his or her homeroom for such events as the Spring Dance, Suppers, and other events sponsored by the Student Organization. These seven committees have, directly or indirectly, a part in almost every activity at Central High School. The committees do such things as follows: the Public Relations Committee puts up bulletin boards and greets visitors when they arrive at the school; the As- sembly Committee arranges all group meetings; the Personal Relations Commit- tee serves the basketball players and ref- erees refreshments; the Recreation Committee supervises the spring dance, the sock hops and helps other organizations with dances, etc. ; the Traffic and Safety Committee supervises group parking and fire drills; the Citizenship Committee checks the lunch line and sponsors other programs to improve citizenship; and the Scholarship and Attendance Committee combines the A and B Honor Roll and the Failure List. The Central High School Band was first organized in the Fall of 1958 with about 30 members signing up for different instruments. The band progressed rapidly under the capable direction of Mr. Robert Clark. Many improvements and changes were made as needed. All of the members enjoyed what they were doing and proved it in the late Winter of 1961, when they won a superior rating in the North Carolina State Band Contest. The group now has uniforms and has hopes of acquiring new instruments in the very near future. Having participated in many parades and concerts, the band has no doubts of doing so again. Let ' s all be proud of our band and give it all the support it deserves. Director MR. C.
