The talented hut unproved Cats opened with a bang by trip- ping the defending state champions, Wilsoii. Inspired hy this initial victory, Central sur- prised its followers hy tying Brown High of Atlanta, later to become one of the strongest 'J'-'em ,M ,f JESSE BERRY, Captain 43 BL MR. BILL BRANNIN, Head Coach teams in the South. With these two tough opponents behind them the Big Blue rolled over Greenshorog Louisville, Ky.g Harding: and Asheville in quick succession. After these smashing victories, the Cats were forced to he content with a tie with High Point. The mud in lVlemorial Stadium was partly rc- sponsihle for this below average performance. Central then journeyed to Miami to suffer their first defeat at the hands of powerful Miami Senior High. The Big Blue, however, was not to he denied the conference cham- pionship as they overpowered VVinston-Salem and Gastonia to capture the crown. Central engaged in two post season games, losing the State Championship to Fayetteville and de- feating Bock Hill in the Carolina Bowl. Page Twenty seven
