They represented all walks of life and all varieties of temperament, from the dainty Prioress to the Miller with the wart on his nose. A gust of wind-and six hundred years have been swept away. The Canterbury Pilgrims have receded into the dim corridors of time-but not so with pilgrimages. Mankind is still seeking that which he has never found. together by chance, on the way to some other Canterbury shrine. We, also, have paused to prepare ourselves before beginning the long journey. Our group, too, includes a variety of personalities. The dandyish Squire, the worldly Monk, the gossipy Friar, and the Knight who loved chiv- alry and honour--we have known them all in their modern guise. Shortly we shall fare forth, with the light heart and bright costume of youth.
