Student Council Attempting to have Central High School accept the Governor's Teenage Code was one ven- ture of the l957-58 Senior Student Council. Also on their agenda was attending the Student Coun- cil convention in Mankato and sending two dele- gates to the state convention. Later on, the election of the Student Council president for the following year and the traditional Winger's Whirl took place. ROW I: Gard, Hartley, Malnar, Voth, Mock. ROW 2: R. Time bade us, Make your mark and with sharpened pointed pencils we began. The lead, being new and unused, faltered at first in many turns and crosses. Scribbles and scratches were seen, overlooked, and filed for future refer- ence. The guide-lines of morals were carefully kept. As the years progressed, the copy of the class of '58 was written upon the records of clubs, committees, report cards, and dramatic and athletic programs. Worn now to a nub was the eraser in the attempt to eliminate the mistakes made by those who hard- pressed the pencil. The lead broke off unevenly, and the sharpening of resolutions became appar- ent. Now the pencil has shortened and the tooth marks of the thinkers have reached into the lead which has met its termination. The class of '58 has fixed its final period here. The following sequel will be our future destiny. . . rr-f-:.wf's:f 'iilN CARLTON AKINS ROBERT ALLYN JAMES ANDERSON JUDITH D. ANDERSON JUDITH I. District 14 Wing ...... 54 No. St. Paul Wing ...... 33 West St. Paul John Juers Steve Malnar The fans yelled go! go! go! and the team went! went! went! All season the Wingers drove in points to win the Big Nine Championship. Not only Big Nine teams fell under Red Wingls fine perform- ances, but teams such as Minneapolis Roosevelt, Anoka and West St. Paul were also overpowered. For the third consecutive year the team won the Big Nine trophy. The Wingers were only defeated once during the regular season on De LaSalle,s court. With some close games to add excitement, the team wound up regular play with a sense of accomplishment and satisfied fans. Tournament time brought a stepped up pace but the Wingers lost to West St. Paul in their second game of district competition. The senior players, Malnar, steady and depend- able, Lane Fridell and Juers, taking care of the guard posts, Hayes, sparking the offense, and Gary F ridell and Freier who backed up the team, plus the juniors, left a team we can all be proud of. ROW 2: Schulenberg, Bowen, Larson. Coach Myron Smith B Squad Basketball Coach Myron Smithls B Squad basketball team turned in a respectable season's record, winning ll games and losing 7. Five defeats came at the hands of conference foes Owatonna, Mankato, Austin, Winona and Northfield. Non-conference vic- tories were won by Moundsview and De LaSalle. Based on the relatively fine playing of a number of mem- bers of the junior varsity, next year's A Squad, as well as many to come, should contain five personnel to continue Red Wing's excellent basketball record.
