THE SAND FLY 1958 Since the early history of the Eastern Shore is perpetuated by the great number of Indian names found all over the peninsula; the Staff of 1938, in presenting the first annual of Central High School, has selected, as its name, the English version of the Pungoteague River (Creek), The Sand Fly. The above inscription appeared in the first Sand Fly ever published here at Central. Now, twenty years later, we, the Staff of 1958, take pleasure in reprinting it so that our readers may know the origin of our traditional title. CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL PAINTER VIRGINIA

IN MEMORIAM For a portion of our sophomore year we were privileged to have as our English teacher Miss Caroline Scarburgh. Although we did not know her for even one session, we shall always retain a memory of her in our hearts. Like us she was young and she understood our problems, the problems of youth. She had enthusiasm a nd charm, exuberance and poise. We learned much that year, not only of English but also of things more intangible, more lasting, things that will help and guide us throughout our lives. With gratitude and humble pride we, the Senior Class of 1958, dedicate this, our annual, to that memory which shall forever dwell within us. MISS CAROLINE I. SCARBURGH
