When Nancy Turner was ' buzzard bait ' and Jimmy Lewis learned to spell Central? Our professional performance of Are Teachers Human ? The purple-fingered witch with her pewtered figs and the grand game that Hortense played? The party afterwards at Fisherman ' s Inn and our gifts to Mr. Nicholson? The slumber party at Sue ' s with Billye June and Linda in mor¬ tal combat ? What wonderful bench warmers we made and the thrill of getting that first ' letter C ' ? Our seventh grade commencement and the Pyramid of Life ? When Linda ' s theme song was How Important Can It Be and Mary was nuts about ' Woody Bud ' ? The boys ' Halloween party and riding home through the flood? The wonderful night of the ' Mardi Gras ' ? The millions of balloons we blew up and the crepe paper that drooped down and down and down? Those brooms that had to be pushed by three people? That awful moment when they tore down all the decorations ? Helen Gene as a gold digger in Among the Guests ? The cooped-up week we spent in the ' Snipe ' with Bette, Martha Custis, and Linda Scrambling for rides in a Willys jeep? The Cen-Chat news that was never in on time? The bakes we had, the cards and pins and stationery we sold? When all the Faithful Nine (minus Nancy Anne, of course) went around singing I ' m Available ? How appreciative the boys were of the cheerleaders after the Cape Charles game? When the Bulldogs Sailed to Victory , well, anyway, made it a tie ?
