Retiring David Kardokus, born in Free- landville, Indiana, came to t'entral High in the fall of 153223. He previ- ously attended rural schools in Knox County and completed grade school at iBeknell, Indiana. Upon graduat- ing from Bicknell High School, in a class of two boys and seven girls, he went to Indiana State Teachers' College. It was at this time that Nlr. Kardokus signed a pledge to devote his life to the profession of teaching. After serving: in the mili- tary in World War I, he received his B.S. degree in Education at ISTC. He did graduate Work at the Uni- itil versity of Chicago and the Univer- sity of Southern California, and was awarded his M.S. degree by the School of Education at Indiana Uni- versity. Thirty-five years ago he lzagan his teaching here at Ventral in room 109. During' those thirty-five years, Mr. Kardokus was elected president of the Schoolmen's Vinh, president of the Board of Vontrol, and chair- man of the Honor A Vommittec. During' the time he was president of the Board of Fontrol, the lloard began ill the present procedure of record keeping, 421 placing' com- bined deposits of clubs into llank Savings Account, and till lllI4lj.l'l'llllj,f funds for Scholarship IC and other such worthy functions. As chairman of I-Ionor A t'onnnitlee, he de- veloped the procedure of home room cumulative scholarship reports for office administration. Mr. Kardokus niet his wife here at f'entral. She was a teacher and previously a graduate of Vcntral, then called Evansville lIig'h School. Mr. and Mrs. Kardokus have two daughters and a son. During vaca- tion time they have visited many places in the U.S. Their most am- bitious trip, however, was in 121523 when Mr. Kardokus and his family flew to Germany to visit his son continued on page 30 Page 3

faculty Retiring Claude V. Robinson, who is retir- ing' this year, was born at Heilman, Indiana in Warrick County. He at- tended Heilman grade school and graduated from Selvin High School. After graduation, Mr. Robinson went. to Central Normal College for three years and then entered Iivansvillc College for his A.B. de-4 gree. He was in the first graduating class in 1922. From there he went to I.Il. to receive the M..-X. degree. Mr. Robinson came to Central in September of 1926, teaching math and managing' the athletic depart- ment. He became head of the math department in 19363 at this time he resigned as athletic manager, and latcr was assistant principal from 19259 to 121-15. Leaving: Central, Mr. Robinson became principal of Me- chanic Arts from 1945 to 1956, the year he returned to Central. Other teaching' experiences of Mr. Robin- son's include Selvin High School, New Winchester, Elberfeld, and Reitz High School. He is a member of the N.E.A., the Optimist Club, and Phi Delta Kappa. Alter retiring, Mr. Robin- son plans to sell securities part Page 2 time and spend a great deal of his time traveling. He has visited many places in the U.S. and Canada. This fall he plans to see the VVorld Series. W'hile athletic manager at Central tfor ten yearsj he developed many friends over the state. I shall leave Central with fond memories of the fine faculty and student body, Mr. Robinson said. sponsor and officers For the last four years one person who has constantly worked for the advancement of the Class of 1958 is our class sponsor, Miss Mary Louise Heger. Miss Heger has donated time, energy and effort to promoting our welfare and happiness. She has assisted us in learning Central's present educa- tional facilities and its traditional background. For four years our problems have been her prob- lemsg she has helped us with the understanding and the wisdom of a truly great person. As we grow older, we of the Class of 1958 will appreciate even more fully than we now do our debt to her direct and indirect guidance, her wise counseling, and her genuine friendliness. Wher- ever we go and whatever we do, we will be better citizens for having been under Miss Heger's lead- ership.
