Page 26 senior awards and honors by Judy Carter Commencement Speakers: Jon Sand- leben, Brenda Bryant, Tommy Tupper, and Karel Brooks. Class Day Speakers: Retha Biggs, Bill Vanover, Betty Alexander, and David Schmitt. Virginia Angel received a music scholarship at Evansville College. Linda Ashton received an Evans- ville Business and Professional Women's Club Award. Stanley Ball received an Anna and Benjamin Bosse Scholarship. Retha Biggs received a Special and Residence Scholarship from Indi- ana University and an Anna and Benjamin Bosse Scholarship. Karen Brizius received an Alumni Scholarship from Evansville Col- lege. She also represented Central at the Indiana University Jour- nalism Institute. Dianna Brown received an Alumni Scholarship from Evansville Col- lege. She won second prize of S15 in the notebook contest sponsored by the Evansville Manufacturers and Employers Association and won first place in the Science Fair for her model of the Uranium atom. Dianna also received an Anna and Benjamin Bosse Schol- arship. Brenda Bryant received first honor rating in her exhibit of Cancer produced in chickens and the ef- fect of Testosterone on the comb growth in chickens. She also won the Bausch and Lomb Science Award for 1956-57 and the Rose Rudin Award for her outstanding work in Journalism. She also re- ceived an Anna and Benjamin Bosse Scholarship. Sharon Buecher tied for 3rd prize in the notebook contest sponsored by the Evansville Manufacturers and Employers Association. George Engel placed fifth in the Teen-age Roadeo contest. Andrew F0ster received the Kiwanis Award in basketball. He also was chosen most valuable player. Marilyn Gingrich received the Lead- ership Scholarship from George- town College. Charles Jones received a music scholarship from Evansville Col- lege. He was also captain of the band. Charles won first place in the Central and Southern Indiana District solo and ensemble contest for Boys' high voice. Karen Knight won the Quota Club Award. Ronald Libbert was awarded an Academic Scholarship from Ev- ansville College. Jodie Oldham was chosen by the Kiwanis Club to go to Indiana University to the annual Indiana Governmental Conference. She was also a winner in the City Planning Contest. Charles Schefer received a bronze medal in the English Contest at the Indiana University Achieve- ment Finals. Jon Sandleben received the LaVerne Moyes Scholarship from Indiana University. Jon was the first ap- pointee by Mayor R. Vance Hartke to the City's Youth Coun- cil Harold Salmon received the Kiwanis Award in Football. He also won the city singles in Tennis. Marion Schmitz received an NROTC Scholarship. Robert Sherlock received an NROTC Scholarship. Bob also received the Kiwanis Award for his outstand- ing work in choir. James Sizelove was the Dance Band Leader. Janet Sirkle received the Thrall Scholarship from Indiana Univer- sity. Janet was the Football Queen and the May Day Queen. 441 She also represented Central at the Indiana University Journalism Institute. Tommy Tupper received an Ath- letic Scholarship from Evansville College. Tommy also won a trip to the United Nations for winning a speech contest sponsored by the Community Center. Dell Writtenberry received the Daughters of the American Revo- lution Good Citizen Award. Dell also received the Academic Schol- arship from Evansville College. She was Lieutenant of the band and was the winner of the Arion Award presented by the Kiwanis Club for her work in the band. Mary Jane Wright won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomor- row Contest. Jerry Wingerter was chosen honor- ary basketball captain. Jimmy Philips was the honorary captain in Football. Harold Thomas received the most valuable player's trophy in Foot- ball. various honors 0Scar Bohn was chosen for Hoosier Boys State. Michael Cooper won first place in the Optimist Club Speech Contest and first place in the County Speech Contest in Extemporan- eous Speaking. Nancy McManus was the winner of the Girls' ping-pong tourney. Carol Becker and Daniel Eugene Williford were winners in the City Planning Contest. Martha Fitch and David Woehler won first prizes of S25 each in the notebook contest sponsored by the Evansville Manufacturers and Employers Association. Linda Wathen and Nancy Fisher were speakers in the American Education Week Pageant.

Under the direction of Miss Olema Mote, the dramatics II classes gave the stage a new look. This included all new scenery. lights, and stage setting.
