Night School science research Central High School was the first high school in the United States to receive a grant of financial aid from the National Institutes of Health, to do scientific research on the high school level. Mr. Robert Silber, head of the science department, applied for the grant, and the research is under his direction. Five students were selected to participate in the research, which in- volves working' in the laboratory after school. The students partici- pating this year were Brenda Bry- ant, Diana Brown. James Sizelove, .lames Van Vorst, and Tom YVel- horn. Tom is a Reitz student. The object of the grant, which was for S2300.00, was twofold. First, to interest students in science and give them actual research experi- ence. Secondly, to determine the free amino acids in a series of fruits and seek two new amino acids which Mr. Silber helped isolate last sum- mer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Page 24 Appearing at many of the functions around town this year were the Madrigals, a group of singers chosen by Brad Chaffin, choral director. These students were asked to perform for many of the clubs and societies in Evansville.
