CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA Editor: Twila Griggs Co-Editor: Billy Gabler Sponsor: Elaine Livingston RED AND BLACK ROLL BACK 2 Rollin' THE YEAR Rollin' 3 Double Trouble Leisurely Learning Hullin' S Roll Back the Memories, Between Classes 6 Rollin' CLASSES 7 SENIORS Senior Class of 1982 President Gail Sanks Vice President Billy Gabler Secretary — Alicia Hendrick Treasurer — Pam Mayo When we arrived on the Central campus as Sophomores, we took the school by storm. We walked away with first place in the Homecoming Float competition and first place in the Pep Rally Spirit Competition. As Juniors, we were proud to win the first place award for Homecoming Float competition again. We also showed school spirit by placing second in the Homecoming Spirit Competition. We gave the Seniors a beautiful prom to remember which was held at the Columbus Trade Center. The theme was This One's for You. When our Junior year ended, we knew our next year would be the most exciting of our high school careers. Finally, we were Seniors. We began our Senior year by winning the Float Competition for the third consecutive year in a row. We are very proud of our class and their ability to win the Float Competition every year that we have been at Central. We also won the Homecoming Spirit Competition and the Pep Rally Spirit Award for the second time. We believe that our class achievements can go virtually unprecedented and there may never be that much spirit in a class again. Our Senior year will soon be coming to a close, and graduation will be here. We would like to thank our very special sponsors: Miss Christie Boswell and Mrs. Mary Jane Riley for all of their unending help when we most needed it. Recognition should also go to our class officers: Gail Sanks — President, Billy Gabler — Vice President, Alicia Hendrick — Secretary, Pam Mayo — Treasurer. They have worked hard to make our Senior year the best of all. We would also like to thank all our teachers for the knowledge we have learned. We know that we will be well prepared to step out into the world after May 28. 1982. 8 Senior Beverly Dianne Adams v James Clint Adams Jennifer Lynn Adams Kevin Adams Mitchell Adams Russell Glen Adams Lawrence Alexander Tracy Renee Alexander Bonnie Dee Alford Brenda Faulk Anderson Peggy Arg Jennifer Leigh Arnold Mickey Ault Mary Jacqueline Bailey James Bradford Baker Consuwader Bennett Linda Corbitt-Berdeaux Pixie Bigbie Seniors 9 Laura Blankenship Wayman G. We have learned to work together and show pride in our school. Homecoming is always a special time at Central High School. Even though we came in last place in the Float and Spirit competition, we feel that we have gained the experience we need to help us in our years to come at Central. We would like to thank all the people that helped on our float. Their generosity was greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank our class officers for their loyalty and dedication. Our officers are as follows: President; Carlton Jenkins. Vice President; Mary Jean Camp. Secretary; Tabitha Butler, and Treasurer; Shirley Jones. We would also like to give special thanks to our sponsors — Mrs. Bell. Mr. Berta and other faculty sponsors. Without their help and many others we would not have been able to make this past year an enjoyable and memorable year. We believe that our future years at Central will be successful and will fulfill our educational needs. The students in this club view the support of dramatic arts in a high school environment as essential to the whole education concept. By such activities as club sponsored workshops, the members hope to foster understanding of the artistry involved in the production of a play. Through hands-on activities such as the production of a full-length play from blocking through presentation, drama club members will learn first hand how to transfer the words of a playwright from script to stage. Other activities of the club include ushering at Springer Opera House events and raising funds for various CHF projects. Through all club sponsored activities, the drama club members hope to increase the awareness of the dramatic arts here at Central High School. Our Club has been extremely active this year with officer elections, attending the local officer’s training conference in Montgomery on November 6 and 7th, hosting our second annual VICA Bar-be-que on November 21st and especially with our Empty Stocking Campaign. The Empty Stocking Campaign was a toy drive for needy children at Christmas. The VICA students were able to use their skills in the repairing of broken toys and in making new toys. Fourteen families were served with a total of 43 children, ages 3 months to 18 years. This was a very valuable experience for VICA students and advisors alike. The Phenix City Police Department worked with VICA by helping collect toys and by donating a ham and turkey to each family. We feel helping others is a big part of the true meaning of CHRISTMAS. This game saw the lead change hands three times in the final quarter. Allen and split end Darrell Chambers combined on a 73-yard scoring bomb with 1:08 left, giving the Raiders a heart-stopping 23-20 victory. Both teams entered the contest with 3-3 records and there was little to choose between the bicity rivals. Don Hill accounted for the majority of the rushing yardage. Central quarterback Carlton Jenkins also had a good night, scoring twice and completing 3 of 12 passes for 79 yards and a TD. A fumble recovery by Shaw stopped Central's first drive at the 6, and another recovery led to the game's first score. Central took the ensuing kickoff and drove 68 yards in eight plays. Mrs. Riley graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She received her BS, MA, AA Degrees from the University of Alabama. lrs. Riley has taught school in Phenix City, Alabama for six years. The past two years has been spent as Guidance Counselor at Central High School. Mrs. Riley was sponsor for the Senior class this year. She has worked tirelessly on such activities as Homecoming, and with the Senior Executive Committee planning graduation. Mrs. Riley has been with this Senior Class as Sponsor for the past three years. During this time she has gotten to know the students personally and individually. If you could summarize Mrs. Riley's qualities you would have to say that she possesses the ability to work well with all students and is able to advise them on academic as well as personal matters. Her door is always open to all students and her rapport with both students and faculty is to be commended. It is with great pride and pleasure that the Senior Class of 1982 dedicates this year's Red and Black to Mrs. Mary Jane Riley. Dedicatee 207 Advertisements i Congratulations Seniors of 1982!
