Jn .,,. fx,- K SENIORS an sf Q 1, 'Gin President, Gurvice Clark Secretary, Sue Harris Vice-President Tillman Housten Treasurer, Mary Anne Bentley On September 6, l96O, two hundred forty proud seniors enrolled for the last time at Central High. We began the year by selecting four-capable officers to lead us. Chosen as President was Gurvice Clark, Vice President, Tillman l-lousteng Secretary, Sue Harris, and Treasurer, Mary Anne Bentley. To guide us this last year we had Mr. Ray Mount, Mrs. Nell Coulter, Mr. Henry Flemina and Mrs. Gerald Freeman to be our sponsors. At the flrst of November we elected Mary Anne Bentley who reigned as queen at the homecoming game. The time kept slipping by and flnally the Christmas holidays arrived. Everyone enjoyed refreshments and entertainment at our farewell Christmas party, Toys were bought as gifts for the needy children. Soon our holidays were over and the old routine began again. In January Janice Sinquefleld and Sandra Ford were chosen to represent us at the Jordan-Central game for Bas- ketball Queen. Janice was crowned Queen. Elected as our class favorites were Anne Murphy and Jack Blau, who were chosen on the basis of Charm and Per- sonality. Anne Murphy and Jack Blau were honored to have the title of Mr. and Miss Central. The last days of our Senior year we found ourselves with mixed emotions. There were a few nervous laughs and quite a few tears, then at last but all too soon we were on our own. down BRENDA LOUISE MARTIN MARY ALYCE MASSEY You'lI find her in the jokes, You'H find her Good nature is the key To happiness in The games, buf no matter where you End her, she's always iusf the same The head of a genius, Te earf o a Honor lies in honest foil fm yr' RICHAKU ALVIN MCKINNY BILLY REX MCLANEY ' ' d ' h' f too, like doing Don't plague me with studies, l have Full of fun an misc ie weighfer Things on my mind things he shouIdn't do ,.A , ff Viv ' R A ALTON EARL ABBOTT He proflis mos? who serves best ,JW gi qu 4, 32 M, Awqigfgmkq ROLAND LARRY 'S'-2.'? Those who were selected to lead us in our activities were David Rhodes, president, Mike Howard, vice president, Mary Booker Cornett, secretary, and Ann Copelandf treasurer. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Kennedy, Miss Peters, Miss Burdeshaw, Mr. Fleming, Mrs. Salzmann, Mr. Lupo, and Mrs. Luker. Before we knew it football season had come and gone. lt was highlighted with Homecoming. Repre- senting us in the Queen's Court was Mary Booker Cornett. For a Thanksgiving proiect we carried fruit baskets to needy families. lt was not long, however, be- fore the Christmas holidays. We celebrated by decorating, having parties and exchanging toys which were distributed to needy children for Christmas. The basketball highlight of the season was the election of Basketball Queen. Edwina Rutledge and Beverly Adams represented our class. Mary B. Cornett and Jimmy Russell were chosen as our class favorites. To help raise money for our Annual Junior-Senior Reception we sponsored Variety Night. Then in May came the most important event of our junior year, the Junior-Senior Reception. lt was a night of fun for all. The receiving of the long awaited class rings along with final exams climaxed an exciting and eventful year. At the beginning ot the year we elected as our Freshman Class President, Larry Sellers. Assisting him was Vice President, Nancy Locklar, Secretary, Sylvia Riddle, and Treasurer, Kay Mitchell. At the climax of the football season we elected as our Representative tor Homecoming Queen, Jenny Webb. During basketball season our class elected Jenny Webb and Fannie Smith to represent us for basket- ball court. Later in the year we chose Larry Sellers and Fannie Smith to be our class favorites, During the last tew months ot school the freshman class chose cheerleaders to continue in the place of graduating Seniors, Now that we have come to the end of the 1960-61 term as Freshmen we look torward to becoming the future Sophomores of 1961-62. 1721 M3 -E' t ' N .. . .... ...,..,.., . They reason that if youngsters have an after-school gathering place at school. with a soft and pleasurable refreshment keynote. they will be more inclined to participate in benehcial activities under the watchful eye of the school administration. By the same token, availability of soft drinks within school limits encourages youngsters to stay on school property at lunchtime. Other soft drink values to be taken into account in relation to school facilities: 1. DIETARY vAi.uE: Soft drinks are accepted in die- tetic planning as an Haccessory food. Like relishes, they accent the diet healthfully. Thus they add fiavor and variety to menus that otherwise may seem routine. Soft drinks provide 100 calories of food energy per 8 ounces in easily assimilable form-a helpful con- tribution during the school day to pupil alertness and interest. 2. wHoi.EsoMENEss: As you know, the body loses 256 quarts of fluid each day. Soft drinks help re- store body fiuid balance. Carbonation adds zest and palatability, In addition. soft drinks aid digestion and stimulate appetite. Because they are liquid, soft drinks pass quickly through the mouth, with virtually no in- volvement in oral conditions related to dental prob- lems. Recent dental research reafiirms this thinking. These are some of the reasons why soft drinks have a place in the food and refreshment facilities of our schools where bottled beverages are easy to store, handle and serve economically. lf the subject of soft drinks in schools comes before your Board, talk it over with your local bottler. He's a tax-paying busi- nessman of the community, dealing in products which contribute to the local economy in the same way as other food products served on school premises. He's entitled to a fair hearing. Let us send you more complete and thoroughly docu- mented literature on the food, health and social values of bottled soft drinks. Write: 2.
