Phenix City and Girard were consolidated during the following year. His success of coordinating the school system demonstrated his ability as an organizer. Among the seven schools built during the tenure ot his ottice are: Girard Elementary Annex, Central High, Central Annex, Central Voca- tional School, and Central Elementary School. William Osler Langley assumed the duties of principal of Central High in i934 and saw it through the depression. Under his administration Central added to its extra curricular activities Glee Club, Jour- nalism, and Band. Mr. Langley, in part, was responsible for the establishment of our Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y. Under his general oversight Central took a great part in registration and the sale of war bonds. ln i947 Mr. W. F. Darnell came to Central as the new principal. That year the C Club bought a bus for the school. The football team won the Bi-City title and received the Skipworth Trophy. The school entered floats in the Governor's Inaugural Parade. During his administration several clubs were organized and the grading system was raised. Mr. Porter Newton took over as the new principal in l956. While he has been with us the Key Club has been organized. The grading system has been improved and several subiects have been added, Some of the subjects added were business math and English, physical science, and American government. w, F.
