CENTRAL I2 EUFAULA 6 A last-ditch pass from Bush to McKenzie gave the Central Red Devils a l2 to 6 upset victory over a strong Eufaula team in their first game of the l953 season, One of the main factors, that accounted for Central's win was the small Red Devil line. This first win seemed to give the team the confidence they needed to finish out the season with an almost ex- cellent record. An improving Central eleven tied a slightly favored Auburn squad, by the score of 6 to 64 The two teams were so evenly matched that neither could move on the ground and most of the game was played in the air, Both teams were forced to punt time and time again. Central's lone score came on a blocked punt on the Auburn five yard line. CENTRAL 6 AUBURN 6 Holt picks up yardage! l've got 'im. CENTRAL 7 COLUMBUS I8 The Red-lmps dropped their first Bi-City game to a powerful Columbus eleven by the score of I8 to 7A lt was a hard fought ball game all the way, but the Central backfield could not get started. The stronger Columbus team seemed to dominate the field. Central's lone score came on a Bush to McKenzie pass with Bobby McClusky adding the extra point, Bobby lvlcClusky's extra point boot proved to be the difference in a hard fought contest between the Central l-ligh Red Devils and the Sidney Lanier Poets of Mont- gomery. This surprising victory over a highly favored team shocked everyone, mostly the poet fans, Both teams fought hard but the Red Devil line held and Central took their second win of the year.
