The squad's heaviest hitter was stortstop Frenchy Sullivan and the leading pitcher I. C. Ross won four and dropped two. The 1942 Varsity had five former players back: Sullivan, shortstop: Rol- lins, 3rd base: Guerre, outfield: Massar, 2nd base: and Williams, pitcher. Other outstanding candidates who worked up from the reserve team were Snider, lst base: Martin, Slocum, Nunn. Shiek, and Lewis, pitchers. The 1942 team made a stronger hitting organiza- tion: its defense was also stronger, and the pitching was seemingly favorable. With a record of four in a row to the middle of May, the netters chalked up their 37th consecutive dual match victory in defeating Midland 6 to 3. Stipes, Lyle Arehart, Ioe Carr, Bud McKinley, Merton Burkholder, Bob Ballenger, and Iohn Turner.
