Central: Student Body pledges Allegiance to the Flag in Physical Fitness Rally. COLONEL W A GANOE WAR COUNCIL The War Council, a vitally important organization, was formed this year in Central High School. Maintaining Central's part in the war effort, the Council undertook many worthwhile projects. It sponsored air raid warden service and training, first aid training, paper and tube conservation, fumiture making for service hospitals, knitting and sewing for the Red Cross, and making airplane models for the Navy. A campaign was carried on in which a group of students talked informally with the student body to impress them with the need of complete co-operation for victory. This campaign boosted paper conservation, sale of defense stamps, and enrollment of parents and students in Civilian Defense. On April 17, 3,700 Central Students lined up on Dort' Field to pledge themselves to health and the flag. Colonel W. A. Ganoe, professor of Military Science at the University of Michigan, spoke on the importance of physical fitness. Colonel Ganoe said that the health program in Flint schools was the best of any he had observed in the State and might pave the way for similar programs in other parts of the country. The students made the following health pledge: My country's a country of millions like me, as I am weak or I am strong so my nation will be. I will keep myself fit and guard my health well, for good health is a weapon no vendor can sell. The following are the members of the War Council: chainnan, Dan Sullivan: vice-chairman, Iean Chisholm: secretary, Stacy DeCamp7 Arlene Atherton, Miss Florence Riddell, Mr. E. R. Iones, Miss Hazel Hoyt, Miss Grace Pinel, Mr. Thomas Davey, Mr. Howard Iackson, and Mr. S. O. Broome. Mr. and Mrs. Ioe Piazza were alumni members and Mr. and Mrs. D. L. McTaggart, Mr. and Mrs. Iohn De Camp, and Mrs. Floyd Valleau were the parents participating in the program.

VALLEY AND CITY CHAMPIONS It will be done in '4l, characterized the drive of Central's Varsity football squad which climaxed the 1941 season with six straight' victories to capture the Saginaw Valley cham- pionship and the City Championship. Upsetting a favored Saginaw team 14-0, after dropping the season's first game to Lansing Eastern and being held to a 0-0 tie by Lansing Central in the second, the Indians went on to win the Valley title. In the annual turkey game, the Indians gained possession of the Wildanger trophy by defeating the North end boys 13 to O. Concluding the '41 season the squad had its annual football banquet in the school cafeteria. The team chose Dan Sullivan, quarterback, and lerry Meadows, center, as honorary co-cap- tains. With Coach Auer and Assistant Coach Udell keeping the team on its toes with plays for the season's games, Stan Broome, the Indian's trainer, nursed the bumps and bruises they received while practicing. Yenner Madaras and lim Vitany were the team managers. Before hitting its stride the Tribe lost the opening game I3 to 0 to Lansing Eastern. Scoring both touchdowns in the first half, the powerful Eastern team defeated every effort made by the Indians to score. Chandnois scores against Northern with every man carrying out his assignment.
